Today the another build for division four of the battleship league, the Renown class battlecruiser of the Royal Navy. Lovingly recreated, or at least as closely as possible, by myself and @Drachinifel in her World War Two configuration.

Great build video. This actually highlights one of my biggiest critiques of the game, that being just how generic some of the superstructure is. Ships varied massively and a great variety of customisation would be great for this game.

Btw, if y'all use 1938 tech instead of 1940 tech, you can use the older 15" turrets (the Hood/Nelson-style models, rather than the "modern" Mk4 models based on the KGV's 14" mounts). All you lose access to is Gas Turbines and Triple-Base propellant by doing do.

Don't try and match shell weights. They're grossly overexaggerated in UAD. I almost wonder if the devs decided to slam propellant weight and shell weight into that stat lol. When picking shell weight, think about how light or heavy those shells were in relation to equivalent calibre shells of other nations

I would love to be able to use tech from prior design years in the skirmish designer. Being able to have the Battlecruiser III hull would be possible if you used the "unlock" cheat but i don't know how that would affect the tourney, and you wouldn't have anne's mansion. But I would like to have a "pick and mix" designer for skirmish. I.E. be able to pick any hull up go your design year, and put any superstructure on your hull that you want, ag again, up to design year, and when you outfit your guns, you pick the tech level, (mk.1-4) and then the caliber. This would be usefull for ships like Renown, Warspite, and other theoretical/silly refits (1940 Agincourt, anyone?)

You can get the correct kind of turret in the 1936 year, and I'm pretty sure all the tech youre using by then. You can also set the 2 factions as having different years.

Loved the video @Brother Monro! Can't wait for the next video man! That does look reasonably close to Renown to be honest. As for Possible Battleship designs going head-to-head, I've got just the One's to take a look at. • U.S. Navy Montana-class Battleships • British Royal Navy Lion-class Battleships • Deustches Kreigsmarine (German Navy) H-class/H-39/H-35 Battleships • Imperial Japanese Navy A-150-class Battleships (The Dreaded Super Yamato's) • Soviet Navy Project K-21/Sovietsky Soyuz-class Battleships If you've already done battles between these guys, then I'd like to suggest a quick browse through the World of Warships Line-up from 2015 to it's current state!

I’ve done videos with ships similar to the ones you’ve mentioned but not in head to head battles. It might be fun to do a What If? Extension to the league later

It is unusual that the game allows such an enormous range of ways to design what-if ships, yet doesn’t have a clear path to re-create historical vessels past ~85% visual / functional match. As example, while there is (currently) no scope for ship-borne catapult aircraft, ignoring the proliferation of catapult, crane and hangar configuration and no offering “visual match” superstructure components greatly limits flexibility.

There are some towers with the catapults and cranes for a spotter plane but UAD doesn’t pretend to be a historical simulator - it is a game first and foremost. If they ever open the game up to modding though…

This video really highlights the biggest gripe I have with the British BC hulls: the damn fore weight offset. You cannot put 2 turrets forward and 1 aft without shoving the rear turret all the way back and making the aft belt/deck much thicker than the fore. It's very irritating designing anything that isn't ABXY or AXY on those hulls.

It's not ideal but if you include other ship types into the battle then this usually overrides the 'wrong ship type invalid design' bug. So you can just add them in and then tell them additional ships to retreat after the battles starts. Again not ideal but it's a workaround. Alternatively rebuild the ship in another year, make sure that you choose a year that hadn't already got a ship design already built in. Again not ideal but another workaround. You can also delete the files corresponding to this country and year in the save file but that means redesigning the ship again anyway so you may as well try the other 2 options first to save the time and effort, even if it does ruin the immersion slightly having additional ships retreating at the start of battle.

I saw the three types of rudder layout and I tried googling for the difference IRL but I can't find much about it, can you or Drachinifel explain more about it?

I love the Alaska but she was never intended by her designers to go up against any of the other ships in the league so I figure the US Navy would never enter her. If we ever do a cruiser league though…

@@BrotherMunro Including AK in the cruiser league would be “inversely inappropriate” -since no nation build a vessel of the type the AK was built to fight, no vessel built by another nation would be capable of going toe to toe against it.
