I love the painters tape trick to keep the screw holes evenly spaced in the top! That's a tactic I'll definitely use a lot! (I wonder how I didn't know of it, or think of it, before. Genius! 👍🤓

Awesome video. Love the humor. I was wondering how you retrieve items that fall down the dog holes into the bench? And a suggestion on sanding between coats - you can use a much finer grade of paper than 200....closer to 600 is adequate to take down the rough spots without removing too much of the last coat applied and gives a nice smooth finish.
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking 2 жыл бұрын

Hi. Great video. Where did you get that air compressor and how is it that it attaches to the compressor. I have one for my vacuum chamber to take out air bubbles from epoxy but the fitting makes it impossible to attach the air hose or any sort of fitting so that I can attach the hose. Weird fitting. Still figuring out my options with that but this looks direct so I’d rather go with your air compressor

Great video, Keith! What are your thoughts on bench dogs vs t-tracks for assembly tables? I mean, you obviously went with bench dogs. Are there more or better accessories for one or the other or something?
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks David! Bench dogs and t-tracks are both great options. Although t-tracks seem to have quite a bit more clamping and hold down accessories available, they can also snag and damage workpieces when sliding materials across your bench. So, it's really a preference thing. I know some people who love the tracks and others who regret putting them in.

So, you have a couple options on how to secure those pads...there can also be a hole drilled in the other side which allows it to suck down and be secured to the bench, as well as the vacuum hole on the other side that let's you secure your workpiece.

@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking

Typically I don't it cut the edge banding so oversized , so I will just stick a piece of 120 or 150 grit to a piece of wood and hit the edge at an angle by hand until the excess is trimmed away. Or I will hit a with sharp plane or chisel and finish sanding by hand.

Hey Keith how is that peel and stick veneer holding up? Also for the halcyon did you tip with a brush after or did level nicely with the roller?
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking 2 жыл бұрын
Veneer still tip-top. 👌🏻. When rolling the Halcyon I just let it level out, but it’s just a workbench. You may have to tip it on a more important application.

Nice work. I saw another vid of yours where you had mounted the Dashboard track hinge on a table - is this the table you’re using as an mft? Any concern for dust buildup in the tortion boxes, or just worry about it when you replace the top?
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking
@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, using this as my MFT. It would take 50 years to fill that up with sawdust, so i'm not really worried about it. 😜

For sure. Hopefully only screws, though 😬😂. I’m thinking about cutting an access panel underneath in case I drop anything super important down there.

Hey Wild Man, another winner. I ordered some more RMC today and told my supplier that YOU are probably responsible for a great many sales, and they said “Who”? Sorry Man, I’ll stay after them. Great video. Did you weigh that torsion box?

😂 Well, name dropping doesn't always work. hmmm...haven't weighed the table, but i can lift and maneuver without issue which means it's not too heavy 😂

Another great video Keith, informative and entertaining as always! Quick question: what is the capacity of your vacuum pump (in CFM or litres or whatever). I’m thinking of buying the VACPAD system but I would buy the pump here in Australia. Cheers, John

Hey John! Unfortunately, I have no idea. The label on my compressor only says 120V, 60 hZ oil-free air compressor, so I'm not sure how much air it's pushing. I would reach out to Dino and DM him directly on Instagram and see what he recommends. instagram.com/kouroscarpentry/
