Hey Ron. Thanks! The Kreg Jig has CHANGED MY LIFE. I use it for everything! Cabinets (which you'll see in part 2) Face frames, model railroad benchwork and other things I've done in woodworking.

100% on the Kreg Jig for use in model railroad benchwork. I am surprised that you didn't use pocket holes for attaching the sub roadbed in case you had to adjust later.

Looks great Andy. I’m really enjoying all of these tips as I’ll be trying this style benchwork. Looking forward to the cabinets you’ll be building. I love when a layout is built to a furniture quality. It really makes the train room an inviting and comfortable area. All the best, John

Thanks John! I'm hoping that this layout will be the best one I've built to date. I know the progress is slow, but I'm hoping the results are worth the effort/wait.

Building materials in general have gone up dramatically in price over the past year. However there are things you can do to keep costs down! Ridin' High has some good suggestions!

Great video, Andy! Thanks so much for sharing it. What is the dimension of the lumber you used for the top of the shadow box? I’m getting ready to build an N scale 12’x3’ switching layout and want the shadow box style bench work.

Jeffrey I used 1x2 for the super structure of the shadowbox.
