I keep my actual backpacking backpack ready to go at all times. I didn't know that this practice is called a "bug out bag". Funny, my pack is a Kelty too. I was patient and looked at many many packs before I purchased mine, and the Kelty is great! They are intelligently designed to be simple and practical without all of the straps and crap that make a pack seem cool when really they are a chaotic headache.

Thanks for the explanation at the beginning.A lot of people in my humble biased opinion purchase a lot of unnecessary gear for their so-called bug out bag. When in most cases they have 10 times more gear than what they actually need. But for your explanation/ reason, I can see your idea and can agree with most of it. Thank you for the video Sir.

You're probably more experienced than I am, but as an avid backpacker I'd suggest getting a bigger pack fly, that built in one won't keep it dry in a downpour, I've learned that the hard way. REI has some nice ones online you can order.

Great video thank you! I'm old and gimped up so will be staying in place if trouble starts but we are also in a bad fire area with this Ca drought. Have a bag for all of us and I am always updating or changing😉 I do have Max's edc, fr-1, versa pack gunslingers but I sure like the looks of your kelty!

Many people have embraced for the "grab and go" bug out kits and builds, but I have yet to see any topics for "alright, sour and SHTF scenario is now, I need intelligence of my new habitat". If one is to be prepared, chapter two too needs to be prepared for, and gathering HU-INT, SIG-INT, and grab any supplies left behind is something I'd like to learn more about. Great video, glad I'm a subscriber to your channel.

I think you have a well rounded kit but how do you carry your side arm, knife, flashlight, and other on your person items with your bug out bag on? Everytime I travel in the woods long distances I have to play holster shuffle from pack mounted to belt mounted once I arrive at camp. I would love to have a system to hold 18lbs of gear that plays nice with my IWB holster, flashlight, and sheath knife.

Good backpack mate me being British I am used to the British Army Bergen with the PLCE but you have a very desirable backpack. Good kit and it is a shame here in England we don't have the freedom of carrying a sidearm weapon or any weapon and it is very difficult even to get a licence to buy a weapon for hunting plus permits, etc. I envy you guys! ;)

for a "bug out" location what would you suggest would be key things to look for that would make a beneficial area ?!?!?
@Darkmeteor1
@Darkmeteor1 5 жыл бұрын
Hector Zambrano I know it's a bit late but an ideal place would be a place with lots of deadfall(tinder) such as fire starting material.A nearby water source is extremely important.A close food supply or a few squirrels are okay.Trees should be spread apart just to build a hootchie to sleep under.Also never sleep under a tree with branches because when high wind speeds occur while sleeping branches tend to fall and crush people. As someone who served in army programs I know a few stories.

Don't pick a bug out location that's more than a full tank of gas away (if you're vehicle-borne). You cannot count on being able to find gas in a shtf situation. My view is, you need as many methods of transport as possible. We have, road vehicle, 4 wheeler, kayaks and boots. Three is two, two is one and one is none.
