After being exhausted from pulling a heavy cart for more than 2 miles to the beach, I knew I needed to find a solution. So, I created the ultimate electric beach cart using parts from a used Razor Dirt Quad ATV and a Gorilla Cart. I hope my project inspires you to create one of your own!

I just got back from the beach and decided to build an electric cart after the first pull to the beach. This is a genius build for the price. Are all all razor quads the same size ? I’m already sourcing parts to basically mimic your build. Glad I found this video.
@RyanWaves
@RyanWaves 2 ай бұрын
I'm not exactly sure of the sizing for the different Razor Quads, however, I used the cheaper version which I found used on facebook marketplace. Different versions of the Razor Quads have different size motors, voltage, etc., so be aware if you change sprockets as you may need to adjust sprocket sizing to slow the speed down. I posted a link in my description of the exact Razor Dirt Quad I used. Let me know if you have questions building and i'd be glad to help!

@@RyanWavesI just uploaded a quick video of mine last year on the beach! I had to do a little more frame work then you but check out the load lol no idea of the lbs but man it's freakin packed! I'll shoot you some pictures of my build. If you look I actually went with 2 lawn mower batteries and have zero issues with battery life. I just charge it after our day at the beach.

@@jasonc470 your cart looks awesome! I've had zero issues with weight problems in mine. I've had 80 lbs in it and it worked phenomenal, honestly my cart could even hold more. I ended up changing to bigger batteries this summer because I finished the build in November so beach days were on a halt. I'll post a link to the batteries I bought because they are awesome, I can get 3-4 trips out of them before a charge. @@RyanWavesthat's awesome! I quickly realized weight and the quad shock was not enough lol then it dawned on me why not just make it rigid I have no reason for a shock and that really solved alot of my issues. I needed my wheels to be under the cart.. I actually bought a electric wheelchair hitch hauler and I drive the beach cart up that and that's how we haul it. I'll send you a picture and it will make a little more sense. I'd love to switch to lithium simply because of weight reduction. I still need to do the sprockets that should help me with more torque. The balloon wheels had just crappy reviews unless you go with wheeleez so I'm up in the air about those still. I added cell phone chargers to mine as well and those have been handy! I'll email you a few pictures
@RyanWaves

@@jasonc470 The balloon wheels are worth it, I would never use the stock Razor tires on the beach. I've had these balloon wheels for over 3 years. Yeah they have some flaws, but at the end of the day they do one job, spin. Get them and you'll find out how much more weight your cart will carry on the beach. Also definitely change out the sprockets, you will and need that extra torque. But yeah, email me some pictures!

Thank you! Almost every part needed is in the description along with its price. The weight capacity should be similar to what the Razor Dirt Quad ATV's is. The Gorilla Cart listed in the description can hold 1000 lbs.. so no problem there.

@user-zh8og9ks6i Ай бұрын
Ryan do you have a bearing in the front wheel mount or do you have a straight aluminum rod tub straight through the plastic wheel hub? Rear makes sense due to the flange, but a Gorilla cart wheel generally has a wheel bearing to void wear on the straight axle. Let me know and Thanks, Nice job BTW the reverse works like a champ.
@RyanWaves
@RyanWaves Ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes it is only a straight aluminum rod tube through the wheel hub. There is very minimum wear on the tires with the setup I have. I do not think it will cause any problems. Worse case scenario the wheels will need to be replaced by the time it were to cause any problems. Hope this helps!

Hey man, great build. I got two questions. So I decided to run two big 12 volt 100 amp hour lithium batteries instead of the small one to make it a 24 volts system from factory. Also I am going to run a 9 tooth main and a 40 tooth big gear which would give me even more toque than a 36 gear. From my math 2.5 MPH max. Do you think I can haul 300 pounds? Im contemplating jumping up to a 36 volt system, a little nervous it wont be enough UMPP.
@RyanWaves
@RyanWaves 6 ай бұрын
Appreciate it! Yes you should be running this as a 24 volt system because that is what the Razor Dirt Quad ATV used in the video runs as. Mine too is a 24 V system, but I just have two small 12 V batteries taped together. I do plan on buying two new big 12V batteries this summer for the longer run time, and would recommend it. I can't give you an exact answer if you'd be able to haul that much weight. Increasing the torque will give you more power on the sand, which in return will pull more weight. I think if you are going to go the 40 tooth rear route make sure that electricsooterparts (or another seller) makes the 40 tooth rear with the same design template to fit on the Razor Dirt Quad axle and hubs. They may need to custom make it. If you jumped to a 36 V system, I would definitely increase the gear ratio to add a lot more torque otherwise your cart's speed will be way too fast if it's behind you and you're in front. Keep that in mind before buying your parts with the 9:40 gear ratio and using a 36 V system.

I need to build one of these. My two big concerns are distance and getting it dirty. Can it be cleaned by washing with water? I need to go about two miles each way with it. Is that even possible?
@RyanWaves
@RyanWaves Ай бұрын
yeah man you can easily go 4 miles total. The better batteries you get the longer run time. I posted a link in my description of some good batteries that I currently use. I can probably get around 8 miles in between charges (may be more haven't fully tested it). Yes you can rinse it off, but I would try to avoid rinsing the electric components. Use a scrub rag then a rag with water to clean it if you want to be on the safe side.

Hey Ryan nice job and thanks for the shoutout. Did those tires line up with the rear hub flanges or did you drill new holes in the balloon wheels? I’ve contemplated putting on the large tires on mine. My only concern was the bad press the cheaper large tires have vs wheelez and I wasn’t paying $100+ each for the wheelez brand lol. Nice job and keep us posted on how the tires you have on last!!!!!
@RyanWaves
@RyanWaves 6 ай бұрын
Thank you! You gave me the idea of making my own and I did! Surprisingly, the Bonnlo 12" tires I posted in my description fit perfectly with the rear hub flange (usually I never get that lucky..) All I had to do was drill the preset holes slightly larger in the tires frame to fit the threaded rod through. The brand balloon wheels I used works fine. However, I have noticed that some tires have gotten malformed with air lumps in them. The seller was quick to replace them but I wonder if malformed tires are common with balloon wheels due to being outside on the sand in those 90 degree days. The cart glides over the sand super smooth though. I would highly recommend them if you're debating it!

What kind of range do you think it comes out to when looking at the amp hours on the batteries? And is it hard to pull once the battery is out?
@RyanWaves
@RyanWaves 4 ай бұрын
With range, it ultimately depends. Factors to consider are the battery Ah's and the weight the cart needs to pull. The heavier you haul, the more work the cart must pull, leading to less run time. When the batteries are out it is extremely hard to pull the cart. I wonder if there is a way to release the motor's chain and let it run freely, but I haven't looked too much into that. I'm sure there is. I just bought these batteries from Amazon. Two Lead Acid 12 V 12 Ah batteries. They've been running great. Been hauling the cart 2-3 miles and used it three times without charging so far! If you're on the edge if it's worth building or not... it is 100% worth it! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TTWBZPD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
