Which model Ego did you go with? There is a commercial model and homeowner model of Ego’s string trimmer. Does the Line IQ and powerload work? I’ve read mixed reviews on Line IQ. I like the idea of no bump. I bought a Stihl FS 111 R and can’t use it because the 27.2 head broke the line and wouldn’t release line on bump! It was assembled at Ace Hardware and I bought it assembled.

I have an EGO for 3 years now. Mine has manual loading, not auto. But I am very happy with it. I think I spent around $100 on sale on Amazon, basically got the tool and charger for the cost of the battery. I use it for flip edging, regular trimming, and controlling my neighbors hedge that grows throw the chain link fence. I was a little reluctant going from always using 2 stroke trimmers but I would never go back. It is so nice not to mess with the maintenance issues, just charge it and go. I do store the battery indoors when the weather is cool and for the winter.

My only issue is that you used the old model Dewalt Flexvolt trimmer DCST970 and not the Flexvolt DCST972. So it's not really a fair comparison to use the older weaker model. The Flexvolt DCST972 has been reviewed plenty within the last couple of years and has been shown as a really strong trimmer but you chose an older model. Why is that?

I own the exact EGO used in this video. It is powerful, basically as powerful as my gas powered trimmer. The one thing that took a while to get used to is the automatic string feed - the unit senses when the string is short and automatically, without the user having to do anything, feeds new string. Its amazing at how well it works but takes a bit to adjust to because the string goes from short to suddenly full length, increasing it length 3 inches or so. Thus, depending on what you are using it for, such as edging, that sudden additional 3 inches of string will initially dig deep and kick up dirt until you adjust the distance. I've learned to anticipate it when the string gets to a certain length. Its a great feature because the string literally never gets tangled but it takes several uses for the operator to adjust to the autofeed. Its a great product and very powerful.

Much appreciated. Currently shopping weedeaters for my ten year old son, who is wanting to pick up a few yards next season after practicing this season. Battery really wasn’t on my radar. I run two Stihl 56s, but they’re a little big for his smaller frame. Wanting to keep future uses in mind, so Milwaukee may just be the answer, due to battery compatibility with other Milwaukee applications.

Great video, you went further in the testing than I expected. My interpretation of the test results were a little different. Think Milwaukee looked the strongest on straw trimming and the time the m18 lasts is a big win IMO. In my eyes EGO and Milwaukee we pretty equal over all. However considering the only tools and batteries I currently own is Milwaukee and Ryobi means I'd end up having to spend more to get backup batteries if I needed them if I went with the EGO. Ego is cheaper than Milwaukee but Milwaukee also has a bundle with an edging head to give it a little bonus. Anyone who has no Milwaukee tools or batteries already would save a good chunk of money by going with EGO But Ima go with Milwaukee on this. Liked and Subscribed

@@TheLawnReview I actually bought a second Ego tool as an edger. It came with the removable head, so it can be used with other tools. When I use the trimmer, just as a trimmer, the trimming line last MUCH longer. I can use the same 2.5ah battery on the edger tool, the trimmer and hedge trimmer all on the same day and battery has rarely died doing all three on the same day. I bought the same trimmer with the auto loading trim line and carbon shaft, when it first came out 4-5 years ago. I love it. Definitely worth the $260 spent on string trimmer tool and battery. The other tools I bought at a cheaper price without an included battery. I have 6 Ego tools with only 3 batteries. Two 5ah and one 2.5ah with one high powered charger and 2 regular chargers (only one being used). The 5ah battery is for my lawn mower and chainsaw. I also have a polesaw (10" chainsaw) which works well with either battery. 5ah is more powerful but also heavier to hold and carry and 2.5ah battery goes through 2" branches very easy and is easier to use.

My absolute favorite trimmer. I have the t242x... and it's very clear why they stopped making them. They were too good. Starts 1st crank warm, or 2nd crank cold (one choke, one open), EVERY TIME. Most dependable trimmer I've ever had. Most power per pound. Super light, but powerful enough to edge or run any blade attachment. Very little vibration. Spins super fast... most of the time I only run about 1/4-1/3rd throttle.

Nice review. After watching your review, and a few more from other youtubers, I just bought the EGO trimmer (the 16 inch version). Seems like the best choice overall. I have Makita XRU13Z 18V LXT, but it is not powerful enough to trim some tall and dense weeds that grow in the far corners of my backyard under the trees, so in your review the winner of the straw cutting contest, which incidentally was EGO, is the kind of trimmer I want to have, to battle those dense weeds. Plus, EGO trimmer now comes with the battery and charger for $224, and in your review of lawn mowers, the EGO mower also is one of the top winners, so if I decide to switch to the electric mower, I may now actually consider EGO, since now I will have both the battery and the charger. I will still be using my Makita for quick and easy trimming, since that trimmer is light and quiet and does a nice job for thin grass, but I am looking forward to unleashing that EGO on my overgrown mean weeds. Thank you!

My first "real" string trimmer was a Kobalt 80v (kst 2580-06). It had the option to set the string diameter at 14in or 16in. But the weed eater head wasn't the most durable, and Lowe's was always out of stock of replacement heads. My second string trimmer was the Ego 56V (st1510t). It was permanently set at 15in. It had the auto feed head and it honestly impressed me over the Kobalt. I currently have the Ego 56v commercial (stx4500), which has a string diameter of 17.5in. Thing has the power of a bull, and on high is the equivalent power of a 35cc gas weed eater. I got my mom a Kobalt 24v weed eater a while back, but it was the (KST 2224B-03) model. So far, it seems to run perfectly fine for her, but she doesn't put it through the mill or edge with it. However, it does seem to burn through the batteries pretty fast in comparison to my weed eaters, but that's probably because of its high RPM with only a 24v battery.

@@TheLawnReview So far, the Ego Commercial (stx4500). It's incredibly powerful, and very well balanced to hold, especially with a sling. It's also the best one so far (for me) to edge with. I still need to test it with my 10ah battery and see how far it can go on high. Although, I do kind of have to learn how to weed eat all over again, because of it's power and string length. It's also the first weed eater I've ever used that spins counterclockwise. It also has the drawback of being $299 without a battery. A close second however, would have to be the Ego (st1510t). I've used that for almost 2 years now, and I love it.

Best to use the smallest batteries to make the tool easier to maneuver. I would use a 2.5Ah for the EGO and a 2Ah for the Ryobi to keep them light in the hand because these motors arent sagging voltage anyway. Couldnt care less about charge time if you have a few extra batteries for that system by 2024. The EGO is damn smooth, powerful, power load head is nice to have. Gas is a hell no due to the unneccessary extra noise, carb maintenance and mess.

Soundly first place over all and I went against my buddy's EGO (which the head broke - and it costs as much as the trimmer) the Milwaukee and my own Stihl gas trimmer. Personal experience there. But when Project Farm comes out and says DeWalt is the best, as well as 90 percent of all the other DIY reviewers. Gotta question this. No offense, what you got is what you got. I have Ego blower, Trimmer (non multitool), hedger (non multi tool) and Edger….(all purchased when they had “sales” and a 60v greenworks pro mower. I love ego products, but when it came to the mower, it’s just really expensive and too many people want to dump their mowers when the batteries die. I bought the Greenworks for $330 bucks..with battery…and it cuts pretty darn well. Better than an Ego? Probably not, but it’s also half the cost. And if I get the same lifespan out of it than I would with an Ego, it’s a win. I get a s load of leaves and have lots of bushes, so having the “higher end” utility tools make sense… but who knows. Nothing lasts anymore in this throwaway, planned obsolescence world we live in.

The Amazon link in the video's product links is to one of the Kobalt 80 volt models, and the Kobalt model shown in the video looks the same as the model in the photo in that Amazon link, so it seems he tested a Kobalt 80 volt model, not a 24 volt model. The 24 volt models have a smaller battery that installs into a shoe-style mount below a traditional handle at the upper end of the shaft, and these smaller batteries are fully visible, while the 80 volt Kobalt trimmers have a larger battery that you insert into an enclosing chamber at the top end of the shaft, and there's no traditional handle at the top end of the shaft, but rather a grip point forward of the battery chamber.

I am uncertain about the validity of these tests, as there seems to be a complete lack of discussion regarding the pricing of each model and the additional cost of an extra battery. In this current economic climate, such considerations should be included. Furthermore, I strongly believe that gas-powered equipment should not have been included in these tests, as it is an entirely different entity. However, since you have already included a Stihl gas weed wacker, why not also incorporate a corded weed wacker?
@LongHuII
@LongHuII 12 күн бұрын
Allow me to provide an example to support my argument. Recently, I had the arduous task of taming a rather sizable lawn that had grown to waist height. It took me a considerable three-plus hours to complete the job. Utilizing my trusty greenworks CORDED 18-inch weed wacker, equipped with a sturdy .95 cord, the task was surprisingly effortless. I must say, it was an awe-inspiring experience. No need for gas, no requirement for oil, no obnoxiously loud gas engine, no bothersome batteries, and no tiresome recharging. Simply plug it in and commence your work. Moreover, the versatility of this tool is remarkable, as the head can be easily interchanged to accommodate different cordage and various other tools.

Not very fair for the gasser on the time trial IMO. That trimmer has an 11.6 oz tank, or about 1/11th of a gallon capacity. I'm assuming you don't go out and buy 30 cents in gas when you need to weed eat. You probably buy a gallon of it. So you can legit cut that "trip" to the gas station into 11ths (or an average of 2 minutes). Sure it takes 22 minutes to go to the gas station... once every 11 fillups. Every other time it just takes you the time to walk to the garage. I'd have loved to see a Stihl battery trimmer in the mix, however.

@@frommatorav1 Partially. My Ryobi doesn't charge as fast as I use the battery, especially with a push mower, so I have 3 batteries. I have to have 3 batteries because it takes about 2 discharges to charge, if that makes sense. I stick #1 on the charger, and by the time I've used #2 and #3, #1 is charged. But at that point you have to include the cost, which is not small. Ryobi 40v 4 ah batteries are $180, $360 if you have 2 extras.

I can swap in the original battery to finish the small amount left. Sometimes I do the front or back yard only, then put on the charger and rest 30-45 min for it to charge on the fast charger. I do understand that batteries are expensive. The Ego 5ah batteries go for $200-250 but I bought a Ego chainsaw that came with one because my original was getting noticeably weaker after 5 years.
