Very good question! very difficult getting out of that range for me.. have been fluctuating between 1000-1100 ELO for quite some time now.

We are all improving together and moving closer to our natural potential, isn't that great? There are truly no magic tricks to permanently put ourselves ahead of competition. Would be boring anyways. The way forward is to try things out and optimize, and improve our game-sense along the way.

The extrem AI is def. not 1200 elo 11

Im 1300 elo i've never lost to the extreme ai, not even close. I would say it's maybe 1050-1100. (1200 could've been true maybe two years ago)

Hot keys help a lot

Like P47 said, use hotkeys. You can 'bind' units or buildings to keys, like: CTRL + 1 binds whatever you have selected to the key '1'. Also there are 'standard' (adjustable) hotkeys for almost everything: - Go to x (Every time you click you select another one you have) works, with all barracks, archery ranges, stables, siege, castles TCs and way more, even lumbercamps - Select All x (Select all of a certain building) So all barracks or archery ranges. Check the options -> Controls for all hotkeys. There are hundreds. I'd recommend using the "Go To" hotkeys and the hotkeys for creating units (like a villager) first

If you got to that point in game and are getting spammed you are screwed since you are talking about late game. If you mean how to deal with scout rush walls and archers the best way.

I think in the first 3 of the series he continuously stressed to use your hotkeys and set control groups...

The main problem with that is the food cost is too high, you will get to castle age very late. Not to mention that if he is going scouts then you are already behind in numbers and if he is going archers he already has enough of a mass that it's tough to kill them with feudal scouts unless you get armour and bloodlines... Which again will delay castle

Thats my only problem with this series. He was beating extreme ai at the 11/1200 ELO. Wish he would get someone with the right ELO to play against him so you can see how it works in a real game when he's got someone pushing back instead of the ai being easy to beat by this level. I know of course it's a lot more down to listening to what he's telling you, but it would be nice to watch it in action, especially as this episode is about reading the game and making a strategy

@@snarbolax6962 Hmm, smurfing is ugly, but if it's for this purpose, it should be ok. Or he could just invite someone from this level to play non rated. Many would gladly do so.

@@jimbobandharry3030 daut did basically the same series on voobly against real opponents. Just use the search function "daut2k guide" I just checked. In Hera's old guide he also played vs real players. Maybe check that out too. Keep also in mind that everything Hera says also applies to games against real players.

Rewatch your games in Capture Age to see where you think you do it correctly, but you actually aren't. But yes, the ladder has changed a little .

Agree, the numbers there are totally off, they were probably valid only months after game release

What helped for me was learning a feudal rush build order to learn to be agressive and win quickly

@@ahmetcan7979 Champs are almost always just a counter unit. If you go straight champs they'll just be countered by heavy cav or archers most of the time

if you know your opponent has no gold units left and no gold left to make gold units then go champs if you still have gold. It's simply a win. Impossible to beat champs without gold units, they just dominate everything and smash buildings fast too.

Farms function in this regard the same as a drop off point, like a Lumbercamp, Mill or Mining Camp. Any resource the villager holds is automatically added to your stock after completing the farm.

Note that they have to build something though or you can lose the resources, and this works with all resource combinations. Lumberjack -> click to build mining camp = you get the wood they were holding when building is finished. Lumberjack -> click straight on gold = you lose the wood they were holding.

Assuming, of course, he is reasonably walled and you can't just raid lonely villagers...

@@tekas He wouldn't have to tech switch perse. Hera had mangonals and scorpions, with an attack ground you'd able to kill or lower their health. Also, you don't really need to fight the pikes when they're not a thread. Just presure the walls with mangonels and knights, just attack the pikes with siege and run with your knights. Use the mobility. Unless he has siege attacking you with pikes, there's almost never a good reason to take a straight up fight against pikes when you have only cav. That said, if you see he has 3 barracks pumping out just pikes for defense, a forward archery range is always a good option. In the video, Hera had spare wood. He used most of it for more stables, but he could have build an archery range or two and just start getting some skirms out. Keep in mind you're now creating knights, vils and skirms which all cost food - so you need more and more on food. Also skirms wouldn't need a defense upgrade if they're only there for killing the pikes. But as always, it all depends. Scouting is the most important!

you can villager attack mate if necessary. no much diff in dark age

Defending any sort of drush is just making sure he's unable to idle or do much @ your resources. Make sure to scout your opponent and watch the score (good indicator for premill drush) - should be quite high, with all he scouting and military. 3 m@a + spear probably requires an archery transition. If he went m@a chances are he's not walled the moment you saw them arrive. Also try and get hits in on the militia with scouts or vils before they become man at arms

go scouts and see how your enemy beats it. yea and i dont think pinkmen are the best counter to cav. you should try pikemen.

Spearman in feudal can definity work. Just make sure they are on DEFENSIVE stance. That way, you put them at a resource or location to protect and they can't be lured away. In the video the AI just ran after the scouts and never caught up. If you have a couple spears on locations like berries and woodline on defence they will go back to that position each time, making it harder for the scouts to dodge them like hera did i the video

you fully wall your base, there is no other way. Spears can help protect your villagers that are doing the walling.

and then for example, imagine when there are players like me with going forward with army and 2-3 vils to make towers in addition ^^ :D yeah this AI games are really not representative in real 1vs 1 games even at a 1200 level ^^ #realtalk

It's not about how the game is played. The point is to explain what you should do. There's no point in explaining a game VS a player, as every single game is different. Let's say he goes against a player that is fully walled but he is able to get in, you could say: "But what if you didn't?". Or a player going forward but Hera sees it: "But what if you didn't??"... It's not about showing you how to do a specific scenario. It's about telling you what to do and how to do it. It's a VERY general explanation which you can use in your game.

I'd not call this 'lazy execution'. The point is explaining, not showing you how to play. Every game is different so showing it V a player is just 1 scenario from thousands. Even if he played vs a player, you can ask for 20 different scenario's where the player did another build, walled out the scouts, made archers, did a drush or anything else. He's telling us about the essentials which can be used in most games instead of showing 1 scenario.

@@mrkirby8622 what you are saying can be done in 1 minute with a bullet points list. here the intent is to show a real case execution, and of course every game is different, but no 1500 elo plays like the ai.
