Great collection! A lot of buildings are being gutted or torn down and a lot of these speakers are being thrown away possibly. If only there were more collectors like you.

This was only temporary setup at the time and usually don't spread the speakers out but thought at the time to make a special video. Most of the time the speakers stay on the shelf or the walls all connected to listen to music.

For the tone problem, I suggest getting an mp3 board and have the AUX relay of the UTI1 make the board play the sound. Page 15 and 16 of the UTI1 manual best explain the feature. Other than that, this was probably my favorite update out of all of them. It sounds like a big box warehouse store now 😂

Mr. Mercury, What got you into constructing institutional grade audio systems in your home and collecting the loudspeakers/equipment that goes with them? This is a very unique hobby. Does your line of work involve installing such systems? I also hope you remain careful with your outside zone. As you said, your whole neighborhood can hear it (especially with the horns). Maybe worth getting rid of it and not just disabling it. Regards, Ben

I've always had these visions of real life content being played on intercom speakers and intergrading phones onto the system since I was a kid. Here I am years later and making it more advanced. Stay tuned for the next intercom system update video within the next couple of weeks. The outside zone is disabled and might me removed since it's very rarely used.

The collection has been getting bigger little by little over the past seven and a half years. Most have been purchased on eBay and a handful of them I saved from a mall back in late 2020.

I look for the songs in the KZfaq audio library since they provide copyright free music. As far as the announcements I used an old Kmart instore announcements that I spliced in audacity. Here is a link to the full video Kmart video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gNFig7eInZyldY0.html

Do you have (or plan to get) an Atlas P900 or Quam BR8WP? The latter was discontinued years ago but the former is still in production. They look very similar - I have a hard time telling them apart.

I have a question so I have a Bogen UTI, one with a TOAA amplifier and it has three speakers and it buzz when I’m taking and even when there is no page being made. Is there any way I can shut that down or stop it?

That is a ground loop you are experiencing and have dealt with on my system many times in the past. If you go to a local hardware store in your area, you can use a doorbell transformer to get rid of the ground loop and also it will match the audio impendence where the page sounds better on the speakers. The doorbell transformer method works the best and has been done on my system. The side of the transformer with the wires sticking out will go to the TEL input side of the amplifier, and the side with the screws will go to the output side of the UTI1. As far as the size in VA of the transformer, it does not matter, but try to stick with one that is 10 VA and don't go any higher than that since it is not necessary.

I have a box speaker and the wires are short but in how videos the wires are long how do you do that?

The wires come long from factory but some installers like to cut some of the wires short that will not be used. If there's enough wire to work with then its possible to extend the wire with an extra wire you may have.

Hey me mercury fixit I have the FIFINE® Ultra Low-Noise 4-Channel Line Mixer for Sub-Mixing 4 Stereo Channel w/c so I can generate my own tone where does this go I have a Bogen uti1 with a Toa amp

The UTI one audio output that is going to the back of the amplifier would get moved over to input one on the FIFINE mixer using a 3.5 mm aux cable with one end cut off to expose the wires. The audio output from the FIFINE mixer would go to the back of the Toa amplifier where the UTI one used to connect at using the TEL input terminals using a 3.5 mm aux cable with one end cut off to expose the wires for connection. Make sure to adjust the volume from the FIFINE accordingly to avoid feedback when making a page.
