This video helped me so much! I’m 73 years old, I still try to dress semi-stylishly. I’m 5’2”. However I am not petite on top. “Long waisted” with short legs. (Usually size 14 P pants and XL top for big bust) Also I cannot wear shoes that have heels. It is a real challenge not to look “sloppy”. Thank you for all your tips.

H Nancy! I’m so glad it was helpful. I’m not very petite on top either. I completely understand on the heels. Personally I think straight leg and bootcut jeans are the easiest to wear with flat shoes and sneakers. Which there are lots of times when I want to be in flat shoes especially as I get older. I am 4”11 and size 16-18 w. I love the ankle or capri length because they tend to be slightly longer on be. If still too long I cuff them.

Hi Lori! Thank you for providing details for all the jean types and how they relate to petites. Just wanted to share with wide hips, a tummy, and short legs I buy Macy’s Style and Co. high rise, curvy fit, straight leg jeans in short length. Although they are straight legged, I don’t find them narrow at the bottom which allows me to wear boots. I see your channel is growing! So happy for you! You provide so many options and choices for petite women!❤

I’m happy I found your channel. I’m 5ft tall and a size 10 to 12 ( fluctuates). I’m a senior; however dress as I always did. Hi Lori! Well.....here I am at 4'9".....boy, the inseam is quite a big deal for me with the exception of back when Abercrombie+Fitch were selling the really short inseam - really short - and the jeans were curvy, ankle jeans. Those fit me to a "t" in a size 26. I still wear them because they actually fit, whether they are "in style" or not. It's nice these days that "in style" is a lot more flexible than it used to be. At 75 years of age, I know style used to be way more restrictive and there were definite do's and don'ts (white in summer not in winter, matching handbag to shoes always, wearing gloves when dressing up, on and on and on...). ❤Kathleen

Hey Kathleen! I think when you’re petite or otherwise it’s way more important to dress for your body than what’s in style or “on trend”. Clothes in the store are made for a straight body type and most of us don’t fit that aesthetic. Do the best with what we’ve got right now? I hope you are well, I love hearing from you! 💕♥️❤️

Very informative video. I'm a Grandma in my 70s but I want to look put together. I have discovered that a boot cut or demi works best for me. Also I need a shorter rise (9 1/2') The last couple years have been challenging to find jeans that fit well. The skinny trend was not flattering and more recently almost all jeans are high rise. My favorite jeans are a mid rise boot cut from Old Navy.

I'm 67 & always try & dress with style & look out for styles that would suit my 5ft nothing pear shape. Have been inspired to measure my rise 11inch's, 29-30 inseam So will definitely pay more attention to these measurements when buying Jean's & trousers, great information on the foot wear, thank you Lori 💖

Thank you so much for referencing companies that have petite or short sizes. I am "short", I'm not "petite". 5ft 1inch size 12, so I often have a hard time finding jeans. If I wear heels, they are not high, so a 27inch inseam is about what I need. Thanks!!!

@@user-ml3ws7dx9z Short generally means it’s just shorter in overall length/inseam. Petite generally will be adjusted in inseam/rise/sleeve length etc. but not all brands follow the same guidelines

A couple little hints for you. I am also 5 ft tall and I wear monochromatic outfits so top and bottom are similar colors, which makes me look much taller. Another is I noticed your eyeliner is only on half of your eyelid (or maybe it’s fake eyelashes) which makes your eyes look small and wide set. If you did your eyeliner all the way across and extend it out the side to a point, it would make your eyes look prettier I think. Just my opinion. Love your videos!!!

Regards to shoes, I CANNOT wear any shoes that are pointed at the toes. I am older and don't wear those kind of shoes anymore. I don't wear flats either but the shoes I feel most comfortable and really love are wedge/platform sneakers. I have them in several colors and tones. They are SUPER comfortable! I do have one pair of booties with a chunky heel of about 1 1/2 inhes and a (round toe). Since I don't have a car and have to walk to bus stops (sometimes standing as not every bus stop have a bench to sit down) Pointy shoes, high heels are just too uncomfortable. Could wear them when I was younger but not anymore. Try walking to a bus stop, crossing large streets, walking across large parking lots to actually get to the stores and back home again, wearing pointy toe shoes. Standing waiting for buses! Even when I go out for lunch or dinner in a friend's car, I still don't wear high heels or pointy toe shoes. Well...I don't eat or dine at expensive, dressy restaurants anyway. 😄😄 Norm''s, Denny's, and some great little but hole-in-the wall Mexican restaurants and never see anyone wearing high heels in these places.

Hi Lori, This is a great video. I notice certain brands have short AND petite in their sizing -- what is the difference? They give no explanations in their sizing guide from what I can tell.

Hi! So some brands (but not all) will use "petite" if there are accomodations for petite sizing other than length. For example rise, arm hole opening, neckline etc. When the term "short" is used, most often it is just the length of the pants or shirt. Unfortunately most brands are not consistent with this so it's best to know your own measurements and looks for those details when shopping. If they aren't listed, call the brand and ask for the specific measurements.

I’m so happy I just found you. At 5 feet and an apple shape my problem is my waist. I’m uncomfortable in zippers and snap waist anymore and no tucking in tops. Any advice on that. I hate shopping anymore because being short makes it harder. Thank you.

Hi Stephanie! I’m not against them. Personally I don’t prefer them on my body type but I do think they can be styled and look great.

What is the difference between petite and short in length?

Hi Deborah! Sometimes (but not always) a petite size will be shorter in both inseam and rise. A short length is typically just shorter in inseam. Most brands do not follow a consistent concept. That’s why I recommend to know your own inseam and rise which can make shopping easier for you. Hope this helps! ♥️

Yikes! You do have a short inseam. I’m 5’2” and tbh, usually petite are too short. I can get away with as much as a 32” inseam if I wear my heels (which I usually do!). Probably 28” when no heels.

I never said she didn’t deserve to make a living, she absolutely does. It’s called negotiating not undercutting. As someone who needs a lot of tailoring, I have a right to negotiate. She has a right to say no or negotiate back.
