Make one baffle and cut the smallest hole first, measure the smaller drivers first and then make the hole bigger as you go up in size of the drivers.
@BarryWhitfield-dj7xf3 ай бұрын
Also, maybe mount them on the back of the baffle and chamfer the front of the hole with a large angle to reduce reflections
@RAW-CAt3 ай бұрын
Yes, that is the most likely option I will go for. Problem is that it's difficult to enlarge a hole with a router..
@RAW-CAt3 ай бұрын
Not sure about that. If using thicker baffle, the chamfer might act as a "horn"🤷 not sure. Needs testing.
@BarryWhitfield-dj7xf3 ай бұрын
@RAW-CAt Possibly, but it would be a pretty small horn, and I'm guessing it would'nt have a great amount of influence. In any case, for an apples to apples comparison all the drivers will have the same bais, and you'll at least be eliminating a variable if you place the drivers on the front of the baffle. Also, with this method, you could probably group the speakers in two or three groups and most probably only have to make two or three baffles with different holes to suit the size of the cone

21:40 make a square/circle that is removable from the main baffle, then create multiples and flush mount the drivers to one each, or if some have identical flanges you can re-use a square/circle. Lots of work due to the number of drivers, but usually that's how people do it. Another option is to create a baffle faceplate to stick on so that you only have to cut out a shape instead of routing. But then you have much larger multiple pieces. Could make it out of foam core board and cut with knife after tracing driver outer edge.

This is going to be a lot of work! It will certainly be interesting, and I appreciate you doing this. Where are you located? I have a feeling it's not in the US, if so, I could possibly make this a little easier for you. My approach would be one large baffle with an opening for a smaller insert, maybe a 6"x6" or 8"x8". The smaller inserts would be cut to mount the different drivers in. I'm thinking 1/2" MDF since it's just midrange drivers, should be adequate. I could cut the inserts for you on the CNC but if we live oceans apart, the shipping might get a little pricey. BTW, if I can help, I would be supplying one more driver for the testing, the SB Acoustics SB12MNRX2-25-04. It's close in size to the two larger ones you already have planned and based on specs, should fair pretty well in this shootout.
@RAW-CAt3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the offer. I am located in the UK, so not close. I am planning to do something with removable inserts as you sugested👍
Make 2 most common outer diameter (1 large and 1 medium) + 3d print adapter rings. Drawing on cad will be faster than routing multiple holes. You can print with 20% infill. If you ever need to stuff rings or holes due to use of adapters, can use playdough or bluetac.

@ericwesley63433 ай бұрын
@@csj9619 I have them in a 2016 VW Golf in small custom enclosures mounted on the dash. I'm currently running them crossed over from 400hz all the way up. I'm approximately 15 degrees off axis. can you do something similar with midbass drivers as well? I personally run Steg MSS6's, Micro Precision 5.8's, and Mundorf amtu80's for my front stage, but a close friends of mine, who isn't into SQ builds at all, would be okay with dropping *a little* on a nice sounding system after hearing mine. I have to go almost HYPER budget, as he needs a full system. So with the non-negotiable elements of a DSP and amps eating a lot of the budget right off the bat, I'm trying to find some awesome budget drivers. So far I think I'm locked in on the Faital Pro 4FE32/8's for mids, and SB Acoustics SB29's for tweets. For midbass I've found the Goldwood GW-6-PC-4's, which on paper look like pretty good IB drivers, but the $40 price scares me, and I'm really curious about distortion and real world response. Your effort is so much appreciated! A google doc with prices and your test results would be UNBELIEVEABLY helpful.
