Ultimate Truck Camping Setup Build Start to Finish | Overland Truck Camper ep. 4 :
In this episode of the overland truck camper build series, I completely rebuild the interior truck bed camping platform that I originally built in episode 1. I was able to redesign the platform to be significantly more lightweight than the original truck drawers that I built. The kitchen now only takes up 24 inches worth of space when it is fully compressed and is still 48 inches long when fully extended. This allows for additional storage space behind the kitchen as well as the full 5.5 ft storage drawer on the right side of the truck bed. The sleeping platform is now able to lift up using some gas struts in order to make it easier to access everything under the camping platform more easily. I coated everything in this camper interior with high gloss polyurethane in order to ensure that the wood will not get damaged from any moisture that may get into the truck bed during use. I had a ton of fun with this rebuild, so hopefully it makes for a great video.

I can't believe you built that whole truck camper shell, outstanding! Very impressive. You do great work. So generous of you to share your knowledge and plans with others, thank you! The truck bed/kitchen/storage space looks fantastic, just wow! I'm really glad you use real oil stains and oil based Poly not that water Poly and ghastly gel stains, yuck. The storage bins on either side are very well made. I'll share my refinishing tips with you that took me many years to fine tune: I do a lot of wood refinishing and furniture restoration. Don't use spray Varathane Poly. You pay much more, for much less, inhale very toxic fumes, and the finish quality is terrible. Polyurethane must not get bubbles. In the spray type, you inject bubbles thru spraying. As it dries, the bubbles burst forming tiny rough craters on surface. Now you have to sand down. All wrong. When you use the canned Poly, turn upside down night before, then stir once opened, and tap can to remove bubbles. You have this option with the can that you don't have with the spray. I would also never use a sponge brush, awful things with no feathering control. Brush every time with a bristle brush only. Any cheap brush will do. Dilute your Oil based Satin Interior Clear Polyurethane with 50:50 Mineral Spirits or Paint Thinner in a glass jar. Use a bristle brush (cheap one small size) to spread. Pour out a bit of the thinned poly in a tuna can and paint generously all over, not so much on vertical sides. After 10 mins, wipe or smear the poly with paper towels all over, picking up excess and any drips, Its more of a smear than wipe. The idea is not to leave on any thick coating but a fine film instead, and smearing any drips that start forming. Poly must not be tacky but still wet when you do this. Now let dry. Apply 2 more coats same way. When you thin out your Poly, it soaks into the wood fast and does not just sit on top like a thick ugly finish. The wood hardens, end grain seals off, and each successive coat layer gives depth but still keeps the touch and feel of the wood. Very different from one thick layer first time. Never do that. This process will yield a hand rubbed finish to your woodwork. I also like to lightly torch the wood first using a propane torch. For pine, it gives a beautiful soft shading to wood. But on most woods torching also brings the wood oils to the surface as a natural sealer and water repellent layer. Then I like to heavily coat all over with Boiled Linseed Oil (not any other kind or form). This conditions dry wood and gives a golden hue. I dry 1-2 days then start my poly coats. The finer the furniture, the thinner the poly. You can go down to Poly 40:60 Spirits at the lowest. The finer the end result. For fine furniture, I rub in the oil with 400 - 600 grit sandpaper so it polishes wood surface. After you poly and wax, wow! Feels like satin under your hands. very silky to the touch. This is a nice end finish to fine woods. The music - natural sounds are best. Music continues to overload the senses and irritate this viewer. Remember that musical tastes are generational and you appeal to a broader public with no music, and a narrower public with your enforced choice of music. Music is very personal, so you are in effect, forcing people to hear your choices of music if they come to see your builds. Same as if I came to see your workshop and commission a build and you were playing loud rock music and refused to turn it off. Not smart. Photography and videos attract people who like 'visuals'. These folks may not be musically inclined at all. Imagine if I created a DIY channel that only played high-pitched soprano opera arias. Imagine guys watching that build and being forced to endure that music. Get it? Think like that and your channel will grow much faster. On the other hand, you probably won't read this or care. Unsubscribed. I can't take this music anymore.

That's a very cool, lightweight bed/kitchen setup. In the end ripping shirts off, I had a good laugh of the incredible Halk!

I like the top opening up. Reminds me of the master bed in my old camper trailer. Idea thought, I seen it in another video, use the u bolts in the front of the truck bed to hold down the drawers frame and you can slide the drawers out fully.

I would suggest (for this version of the build) two "corner" platforms for 1 gal water jugs -- and a few low voltage fans. Maybe make it so the side "doors" can open a few inches at the bottom and then have a bank of fans that flip down to fill the space. It would reduce your "stealth" - but it is going to get hot with no ventilation. Your power bank could run them for days as well as the LEDs I am sure are next.

Also I suggest boat insulation for your truck bed camper after you have sealed off everything. Also helps when talking comfortability.

"Will come back..let it inflate cuz it looks really dinky right now." Funny, I hear that same line from my wifey quite often.
