So good. Thanks. I would add the importance of the non-dominant arm swing back for counter balance.

Great instructions. Simple, repetitive, relatable.

I've seen him in action ... If I was at the age to try and push through to the ATP he'd be my coach.

Rick is right. You want that arm straight and your wrist in in an L shape thru contact then you can loosen your wrist after making contact as recovery. Also staying sideways until contact too. Stan has bombs because he leverages his hips for his power. Roger doesn’t. Stan plays much lower to the ground. People see pros in real time and think they flick their wrist. No! The wrist is never compromised thru contact. When u make contact your arm and wrist should look like an L shape. Rec players also has a tendency to wait for the ball to drop before prepping. The instant u see the ball is going to your backhand, you should be prepping with your non dominant hand at the throat

Great tutorial Rick ! Thank you. P.S. - not sure what is going on with your uploads, but many of them lately are only at 480p..... so they are super soft and fuzzy. Your camera for sure shot those at 1080p, so something is wrong with the technique your media person is using to upload to KZfaq.

When you say hands closer to body, is that same for 2 hander or should the hands be more away from body?

Excellent stuff. Can the hitting arm go pass the 6 O clock position, slightly? Also, a lot of instructors talk about the slot position, so the racquet head drops down before the legs initialize. Cheers Khal

Good tips. What to do when the ball is a high top spin? Your video shows the ball about hip high. Thank you.

That’s the disadvantage of having a 1 hander. Your only choices are to either make that quick decision to catch the ball on the rise like how Roger did in his later years or you need to move further back from baseline to set up your backhand. I have a 1 hander and I play further back from the baseline. Catching the ball on the rise is a very difficult shot. Having a 1 hand Bh is already tough and requires good timing so if u decide to take it on the rise, more difficult. I know when I net by Bh it’s because I get lazy on my foot work. My BH has improved since getting back into tennis 6 months ago. I do adopt more of Stans style and use my hips to leverage for more power.

You either have it or not. If you don’t you can develop a mechanical 1hbh, but it will be obvious to a real competitor and viewer.

Rick says take your arm back straight and then demos with slight elbow bend in backswing which is what all the pros do. Come on Rick you can do better.😊
