Previously we showed how to set up the DA3000 with the CP2000 and convert 223/5.56 brass to 300 blackout. To load the new brass, we have the Dillon RL1100 set up to load 220 grain subsonic 300 blackout ammunition and some machine guns to test it with. This is going to be FUN!

Man I wish dillion hooked me up with equipment like that. Real world, the majority of us could never afford a setup like that, but I'd sure love to have multiple $1k+ machines and the automatic motors to drive them if I could ever make it happen. Very cool kit though, and I hope you enjoy.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. Gavin never mentions the short comings of any of the machines, or what quirks would be helpful to improve the performance. A setup like this would be seen in a boutique ammo manufacturer, law enforcement agency, a shooting club, and maybe a person with a lot of time and money to reload and shoot. However, it's always cool to see what $9K+ of reloading equipment would look like in real life.

That’s awesome. I’ve found the Dillon primer system can malfunction, most often by having a primer not fully fall into the slide. This can cause the primer to spit out of the machine, and may distort the plastic lips on the bottom of the inner primer tube. Solution: Occasionally remove the inner tube and clean the inside. I use a .17 rod and a patch with alcohol. Also clean the bore in the primer slide with a Q tip. Finally, a 45-70 case or similar weight on top of the primer check rod is quite helpful. I’ve found some brands of primers leave more dust and residue than others. For me Winchester or CCI generally run perfect and the priming system doesn’t require cleaning prior to the whole machine needing routine cleaning/lube.

One year old video when commenting, I’m new to reloading, still collecting 223 brass for my Ruger 300 BO. But will be doing all this using a simple drill, a pipe cutter and my Lee 4 hole press. Being Australian, all I can have is bolt or lever action rifles. Haven’t found a 300BO I can afford yet in lever so going all manual in each reloading process is no issue. Planing Sierras 125 grain BO special bullets for main hunting and will try an all cast local coated 165 grain cast meant for 30-30 as my subsonic and main plinking round. Here, 300BO is extremely expensive compared to the USA as our previous local suppler shut up shop. Might see other cheap 30 jacketed 30 cal bullets for subsonic plinking out to 100 yards (our local range is only 100 metres anyway)

I'm just getting into reloading and I noticed you sprayed the cases with, I would assume Lanolin before loading them into the hopper to load the test rounds. Do you clean the case lube off the finished rounds before firing? I have been seeing a lot of talk on forums about resizing/decapping and case prepping rifle completely then doing a second tumble to clean off the case lube before the loading process. Is there a reason for that or is it just extra work.

So to clarify. Your bullet feed issue is after it places the bullet and the tool head is raising the bullet is catching the bottom of the die? I load gallant coated 217 just fine with a bullet feeder but I had to make my own ramp out of metal wire. I have some Berrys but haven’t tried them. It works good but speed is the drawback. It can’t keep up. Maybe the pro version would do a better job.

How did you check the case wall thickness? Or did you pick same head stamp brass? My first and only reloading accident was during a string of fire and I ended up with an out of battery detonation. It happened because the (new) neck wall was too thick and would not allow it to fully be in battery. That one round was just far enough out to keep the bolt from locking in.

Wish you had shown the cause of chamber jamb from converted cases and how to solve it by neck trimming to max .0135 neck wall thickness, considering the Dillon trimmer does not solve all the issues including the clogging of the trimmer head with brass and case mouth burrs which can cause jambs and bullet damage. Final resize with standard resize die seems to work well.

Just a snarky reply to the snarky comments. Gavin did a vid called THE Progressive press shootout, watch it. You don't have to spend 3K on a auto drive 1050, to be honest it's not needed, to be sure with full auto it's great but there are a lot of options that are way less expensive. You should consider if your using less than 6000 rds per year, just buy factory ammo. However as you approach 12,000 rounds, yeah learn to reload, still a $200 turret press or a $600 progressive is the right course. Don't look at someone else that has made the commitment to change professions and be envious. Don't tell me John Force is spending to much money on his drag racing team, the man is a legend, plenty of other examples to choose from. always do the best you can with what you have. It's too easy to sit back and say woe is me. Don't spend the $15 on your next 5th, buy 2 boxes of .556 and get out there, be better than you are today. Otherwise you just sound like a Fudd, don't be a Fudd be better.

I cut my once fired .223/5.56 with a $40 harbor freight chop saw via $20 ebay jig. Resize and decap with LEE .223 die. Neck down with .300BLK LEE die. Trim with LEE Quick trim case length dies, wet tumble and load. Cost you about $6000 ? $7000, $10,000? It costs me about $150. And when loading commences my brass is sized on step 1 before priming.

I’m getting ready to set up my automated 1050 as a case prep machine like what you have but I didn’t see anything listed in your video about cases to use or cases to avoid
@eagleviewhd

There are some cases that will end up with too thick of a neck wall after forming. If you load a bullet in those cases, it will,often result in a deformed case. I was having trouble with reloaded cartridges getting stuck in the chamber of my AR-15 rifle. I then found out about this and did two things: I measure case neck thickness and turn down the necks on cases with neck thickness over .013, and I also use a full length gauge on every round to make sure they meet SAAMI Specification.
@blackhawk7r221
@blackhawk7r221 9 ай бұрын
I’ll add that it depends on which .223 ream was used on your particular rifle. Most AR chambers are pretty sloppy for reliable operation, but some have fairly tight tolerances for neck diameter and leade for precision shooting. Just do what most of us do. Separate brass brands, form your cartridges, measure neck diameter of your loaded rounds, take notes, and shoot. See how they run. Unless you have a machinist’s inside diameter gauge, you don’t know your chamber’s neck diameter. What I do is pull off my upper and drop in loaded rounds to see if they freely chamber completely, then pop them out with a cleaning rod. Find the one that is a bit snug and you’ll know your max neck diameter. Remember, the amount of taper crimp can changes the diameter.

So….if you can swage on the 1100….couldn’t you set that up to process the brass manually and then after the brass has been converted switch to reloading. For that matter, if your using civilian brass and don’t need to swage, couldn’t all of this be done on a 750 with some more time for set-up and conversion? Seriously not a sarcastic question. I don’t have a .300 but am seriously considering it. I have a pretty much unlimited supply of once fired civilian .223 brass. Finally, I’m on the verge of upgrading my Lee Loadmaster to a Dillon 750 and am thinking of adding the RT1500. Couldn’t I do all of this video with that since swaging isn’t an issue?
@stevesimmonsdotorg

I convert mil-surp 5.56 blanks to 300BO on an ancient RL500, then wash and anneal, then load using a different toolhead. All manual, but it works well and is fast enough for me. Primer pockets are handled with the Dillon Superswage. I also use a Lee factory crimp die as the last station. I did switch to a 223 small base sizing die on the loading head for the exact same reason. I suspect some of the military guns shooting the blanks had out of spec chambers. I check EVERY single round with a case gauge, perhaps 1 in 10k fails the check.
