Ultra Marathon Trail Running with Simon

Күн бұрын

Curious about how to train and run an ultra marathon? Welcome to my ultra running training VLOG - episode 4. This series follow me - Simon - as I race 100 miles ultra marathon every month. This week is the big week - running Cocodona 250 miles in Arizona!
Curious about the gear I use and recommend: check out this link
linktr.ee/runningwithsimon
After months of training and months of preparation, I'm finally racing my big race - Cocodona 250. This will be my first 200+ miles ultra marathon, and it's a beast! 250 miles across all various climates of Arizona, from desert to 9000 ft Mountains with thin air.
This was a particularly difficult challenge, especially given that I had only 1 week of rest since my last 100 miles race (Mt Fuji 100) and was racing solo - no crew and no pacer. But despite the ups and downs, I found ways to keep going. I'll be posting a full movie / ultra running documentary in a few weeks, but this is a preview of what happened, and what I learned.
As always - Thanks for watching and remember -
Work Hard!
Believe in yourself!
Push your limits!
Simon

Simon, I saw you at Dead Horse when I was making burritos in the tent! Wish I would have came and said 'hi'. You seemed to be having a little bit of a hard time but your attitude was so positive. I heard you tell people how grateful you were to be here. That was really what was so impressive to me about meeting all of the runners that day. A lot of folks were hurting but so positive and enjoying their journey. I don't know that I'll ever sign up for a formal race but it was a good perspective and mindset to gain as I tackle my own goals. Stoked to see your movie of the race!

Thanks for volunteering :) Yeah for sure next time come and say hi. Unless I'm actively trying to sleep, I'm always happy to chat! Yeah I struggle the last couple miles getting into Dead Horse - just sleep walking and missing a few turns (luckily there was another 250 + pacer which helped with navigation). I just couldn't focus enough to follow the trail marker, so if there was any turn, I'd just walk by, and then a couple of time the other pacer would yell out "hey over here!!!". But I think I was much better quickly once at Aid station...or maybe I just don't remember!

I can't wait for the full video. I have my first 100k next weekend the 25th, and seeing how much you went through, for 4x the mileage, will help so much! Great job as thats a lot of issuss to work around and solo! I come from Crossfit background, so the normal prescription is called RX and anything less is Scaled. To me, solo is the RX and everything that is extra is Scaling it (which is fine) - crew, pacers, poles, etc.
@runningwithsimon
@runningwithsimon 2 ай бұрын
Yeah for those distance the norm is very much to have a crew, and it's clear why. Doable without, but clearly more complicated logistically. I could have planned better - in fact I think I have better tools to plan if I ever do it solo again.

@@runningwithsimon I was curious as i followed this race more than i had in the past and saw that Glaze had done it solo for like 4 or 5 times now, so I'm sure he has some good info on issues he's ran into. I usually fall back to solo just because it's hard for me to even ask people to commit that much effort/time for a pretty not so fun task ha.

Kids have a little plastic mechanised mule that they take in turns to load, item by item, eventually the weight triggers the mechanism and the mule bucks off the luggage.. Made me smile thinking of a pacer taking on everyone's luggage (in a funny way NOT a mean way) x
