Your muletape already is a tree hugger, no need to buy extra:)

With the continous loop made of amsteel, I recommend using the double nay even triple becket hitch. KZfaqr triple nickel actually should it slipping with just the single becket hitch.

Totally agree that simpler is better. Can't get a simpler suspension than that - no hardware and one easy-to-untie knot. I'm going to give this setup a try. Thanks fire sharing.

There have been multiple videos on this failing. The most notible was the mule tape shreadingas it was pulled off the becket hitch.

I'm using the 2" wide spider straps. I just throw the strap around the tree and thread it through its own loop. On the hammock end I just Beckett onto my continuous loop. Total is 3.3oz and I have a full 2" around the tree, no matter if I'm tied off to an itty bitty birch or a massive cedar. With a 2-incher and armed with tree biology knowledge, no wise-guy high school dropout park ranger is going to be able to argue I'm hurting a tree. It's cheaper, lighter, faster to set up with no hardware...and still I'm giving Dutch a little business to keep him in the game.

I'm going to stick with my whoopies for now, but the beckett hitch is a great little tool to have handy in case you need it!

The only problem I see with that is that the slightest tension on that slack line would bring the whole thing down, or am I wrong? That would really worry me if I were to bump it somehow on a stormy night on the way back from the privy or something. There's got to be some way of safeguarding against that.

Sam Smith That would be bad for sure....but actually it is very secure. I even had a buddy decide he would sneak over and try to undo it while I was in the hammock. Under tension, it will not budge. Very simple and very secure. Thanks for watching

Why not just use strictly the spider web and doe a Becket hitch on that? Lets say, make the tree huggers 10 feet long a piece and feed them through the continuous loop on the hammock and hitch it to the spider web. Am i missing something?
@handymanadventures54546 жыл бұрын
Nick DeWald I’m sure that would work, but I’m not sure if the spider web straps would release easily after being under tension. The mule tape is slick and just slides out easily.

I use just the 1" spider webbing (15' straps) to the CL on the hammock. I am less than 200 lbs. and the Becket hitch in spider webbing will sometimes slip when loaded. So, I use a Double Becket hitch and that has always held. I've never had a problem untying knots in spider webbing, though there is a bit of a learning curve for the Double Becket. I can't imagine that the mule tape is slicker the spider webbing.
