So you can compress the bottom of the goshawk. On the inside of the frame there are tabs that you can connect gatekeepers to and then attach it to the bottom tabs of the bag. Once you do that compresses just like the stone glacier.Also for the belt, if you dont want it floppy (floating) belt, then you just re-work it to the bottom strap which puts it in fixed mode. Easy fix. Kevin has a vid on that. You just have options with the belt rather then just fixed. I have my review coming on it and ill show that.

@@MindfulHunter kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a76Am7yhnbSRdGw.html on how to do that. Per your point regarding lumbar pad thickness, I believe just like the Exo pad, the Seek lumbar pad is adjustable in that you can open it up and stuff more/denser foam (or alternatively remove) to get an exact fit. Hope this helps!

Nicely done Jay, yet another wonderful in-depth and fair review! I always get frustrated living in Canada and trying to purchase American made gear. We always get royally screwed over! I own a Seek Outside Brooks made from xpac and cordura. It's an awesome bag and so cavernous you could use it as a tent yet it compresses down really small. I compress the bottom of the bag with gatekeeper straps just like the Terminus. IMO Seek has such a comfortable frame, even under really heavy loads. It beats the Kifaru and Kuiu frames I also own. The gate keeper buckle thing took a bit of getting used to. I wasn't a huge fan to begin with but that all changed when I started to seriously use the pack and discovered how useful they are! I guess not for everyone though. Both of these companies make such great gear. Like you say, Stone is more plug and play and Seek is more versatile. Mac vs Linux. Can't go wrong with either.

Because of the similar load capacity of the K3 - would you go with the Terminus over the K3 because it weighs so much less?
@MindfulHunter
@MindfulHunter Жыл бұрын
I would not because the K3 has a load shelf which greatly increases it's overall capacity. If weight was my premium concern and 7000in3 was enough than the terminus wins.

Great review! Quick question Jay. With the SeekOutside, regarding daypack usage + compression, whilst it compresses kind of frumpy, what did you think about the ability to A) remove main bag and just run that Merlin as your basically day bag or B) squish the main bag completely so it is completely flat and just running with the merlin + lid? Did you think that would be a practical and good day pack system?
@MindfulHunter
@MindfulHunter Жыл бұрын
No, not really. At that point why not just wear the Merlin? Also the Merlin does not fit on the frame independent of the main bag.
@kevintimm8873
@kevintimm8873 Жыл бұрын
@@MindfulHunter That is not correct. Many people use a Merlin on the frame.
@MindfulHunter
@MindfulHunter Жыл бұрын
@@kevintimm8873do you have any links to this? I’m looking at the bag now and don’t see how the suspension system would stay intact. The Merlin is missing the necessary hardware. I believe people do it I’m just honestly curious how.

Sorry Jay just got 3 more questions from your review: 1. Did you find the short water bottle side pocket on the right practical for getting a nalgene in and out when hiking? 2. Did you find the tall side pocket on the left practical for anything or does the wingspan pocket just severely outshine it? 3. Did you have a chance attaching the load shelf inside the bag as opposed to between frame and bag? I have read a lot of users seem to think the load rides better and more stably inside the main bag that way than against the frame, but not sure how true that is. - Wouldn't using this internal load shelf system also help with the problem of everything sagging at the bottom and splaying out? Helping to keep the contents of your bag higher and more central if you use it almost like saddle? Thanks for any clarification you can offer for these Jay! Have been wondering them for a while
@MindfulHunter
@MindfulHunter Жыл бұрын
Number one. In general I was not a fan of the Nalgene pocket. I have poor shoulder flexibility but there’s still no way I’d be able to reach back and get a water bottle out while wearing the pack. Also the fabric is a little short and I have concerns about the water bottles falling out. It’s also angled Somewhat oddly. And the compression straps only cover half the pocket. Number two. I think the side pocket is great you’ll be able to fit a spotter or a tripod in there no problem. Number three. A little confused by what you mean about attaching the load shelf inside of the main bag. I don’t think there’s any tab loops inside the bag. I could be wrong on this though I’m not at home right now. Also the load shelf material itself is quite small And there’s no way it would fill the diameter of the main chamber bag so I’m not even quite sure how that would work.

Thanks for posting this - I am very interested in the Terminus 8700 as my large capacity bag for expeditions - but am finding few good reviews for this. How do you compare it to the Stone Glacier Sky Guide suspension/carry if you do not need the shelf (I would be carrying heavy loads, but not meat and not more than 80lbs)?

I haven't had the same experience with water resistance and the seek pack. I do believe you got that much water in the pack because of the seams. For example, there are a couple of spots on the pack where it'll be pretty obvious where water will collect and not run off. Using gear aid's seam sealer has stopped these leaks for me. Another possible spot is the water bottle pocket stitching since that's a low point where all water is running to. It would interesting if you could try seam sealing then try this again. I would like to see you examine every 5 minutes since that would help show the if you're caught in a rain storm situation to a monsoon.
@MindfulHunter
@MindfulHunter Жыл бұрын
That’s fair. But for context I live on the west coast in BC. The water that pack saw in 45 mins is nothing compared to what we hunt in. If it doesn’t stand up that that then there’s no way it will handle the coastal weather. I agree seal sealing would improve the water resistance of the bag but I also have doubts about the long term durability of seam sealer on something that gets as abused as a backpack. Your feedback is greatly appreciated as not everyone will have the same needs or experience. I guess I just expected more given how excited people were of the claimed water resistance of these packs is all.
@tengolengo

I’m curious about that as well. Depending on the thread used for the seams, you could see some capillary effects moving moisture.
