It's called the Runback Rule. If you beat someone with a team, or a character before - and they're back - looking for a second go, you, on principle, if they pick the same character you beat the first time, must also pick the same character you beat them WITH. It's not even an unspoken rule at this point, but is rather a standard. If you switch characters, it shows one of three things; 1.) that you're not confident enough in your own gameplay, 2.) that you're scared they've improved enough to surpass you in the little time you spent alone, or 3.) that deep down, YOU know that YOU barely squeaked out that victory, and if a rematch happens, you're unsure if you'll be able to win again.
