Midge Ure was such a great front man for Ultravox. His vocals are amazing and electronic backing music is brilliant. I have a greatest hits of Ultravox on CD. Whenever I play it I'm reminded about what life was like for me in my 20s. I was a teenager in the 70s and loved all the music and loved the music of the 80s. I was working, courting, got married and at the end of the 80s became a dad. This year 2024 i will be 62 and my daughter will be 33 time flys it really does.

Don’t forget he also played with Thin lizzy, what a wonderful time to live in the 70s and 80s and enjoy the music 👍

I'm 60, my daughter will be 33 this year, have a 9 year old autistic grandson, who is my whole world! Yeah, this is worlds apart from when it came out. Just sitting back this afternoon, and the album Vienna came to mind, had to blast this through my soundbar and subwoofer I have out back of my house! Good to know there's someone else who still digs Ultravox!

One of the best things abou being 15 years older than you is that I had the great privilege to play/write (outta radio by then) about this music for you and countless others in clubs n pub(lication)s. I wasn't alone, but we weren't legion. We thank you for listening. Here's where I do my Mr. Burns 'Excellent!' hand rub. Lol. Seriously. We knew, just had to spread the gospel. Takes time. Your turn to turn those you love onto what you love. Oh! Total strangers are totally fair game, too. Even more insidious and everlasting. Trust me.

@Simon P The only low point for me is the screeching guitar solo in the middle.....I bet their record executives wanted that, so that they could sell that to the American market, who were then heavily into Rock music.....i think they should have held their ground and said "NO".

@@AlanCockerillI think Bob Geldof is probably more famous and is probably worth more money than Midge Ure, but in terms of artist endurance I think Midge is the superior talent. He sold the rights to 150 of his songs quite recently for an undisclosed sum of money. I hope it was an enormous sum, and that he never has to think about his spending ever again.

But, oh, that moustache. John Foxx would never have gone near facial hair. Did love that first LP - twixt glam and punk. Saw 'em live once, small joint. Incendiary, if that's even possible drenched in sweat. Only had the one record under their belt, so had to do one song twice as the encore. 'Saturday Night', as I recall.

Several decades later I can still feel the tension.....as the track nears the end on the radio's rundown of the charts, with my finger over the pause button of my cassette recorder, hoping that the DJ won't start speaking till the tracks finished. (STOP).....yeah, made it!!!!

I can't believe how many underplayed songs Ultravox have and how underrated the band are when people talk about the 80s and electronic music. Radio channels these days only ever seem to play 'Vienna' or occasionally 'Dancing with Tears in my Eyes'. Unless you're a fan of the band/this era, these classics go unheard. This is one of my favourites, but then I love songs that mix downbeat lyrics with an up-tempo beat and danceability.

The lights went out (The last fuse blew). The clocks all stopped (It can't be true). The program's wrong (What can we do?). The printout's blocked (It relied on you). The turbine cracked up. The buildings froze up. The system choked up. What can we do? Please remember to mention me, In tapes you leave behind. We stood still. We all stood still. Still stood still. We're standing still. The screen shut down (There's no reply). The lifts all fall (A siren cries). And the radar fades (A pilot sighs). As the countdowns stall (The readout lies). The turbines cracked up. The buildings froze up. The system choked up. What can we do? Please remember to mention me, In tapes you leave behind. We stood still. We all stood still. Still stood still. We're standing still. The black box failed (The codes got crossed). And the jails decayed (The keys got lost). Everyone kissed (We breathe exhaust). In the new arcade (Of the holocaust). The turbine cracked up. The buildings froze up. The system choked up. What can we do? Plese remember to mention me, In tapes you might leave behind. We stood still. We all stood still. Still stood still. We're standing still.
