Whoever lost the precious cargo on board, literally had a heart attack when news arrived. If ever did.

It is so interesting, how varied and diverse the cargo was. Also, the amount of bronze that could have been produced is impressive. Amazing video!

Crazy that the boys who went down with that ship, at least missed (some of them might have done anyway) the Bronze age collapse. Also the ancestors of the famed Cilician pirates must have wepted for days after learning about the haul that had got away from them. Enough to ruin a small kingdom losing that - I wonder? Really good Video, Wanax.

I think they would've sent a military expedition if the word got out that pirates were behind it. 10+ tons of bronze gone? Mycenaeans would be up in arms! ‼

That's fabulous. I have known about the Uluburun Shipwreck for many years, but hadn't appreciated it could be Mycenaean. I personally don't think it was a victim of piracy. As the object of piracy was to loot, or indeed capture the vessel and sell off it's contents. Just as the 'Cacafuego' ('Shitfire') was captured by Drake in the 16th century. This vessel was stuffed with high value goods. So it seems most likely to me that it was a 'victim of Poseidon'. And it does seem highly likely that it was indeed a trading vessel on it's way back to Mycenae or Pylos perhaps to offload it's hold of pre-ordered goods. As it does seem to me that one key element to the success of the Mycenaean Hegemony was the production of bronze weaponry and artifacts. I'll look at this ship in a different light henceforth. Including investigating it's tools as I am a Cabinet maker myself!

Pirates are plausible but they would steal the cargo not sink it. So a shipwreck is more likely. Imo.

I want to place the question if this ship was part of a larger fleet for pirate protection or any other reson. Do we have any info or indication on whether they werr travelling alone or in a flotila?

Another theory is that the ship was Egyptian, and that there was a high Egyptian representative on board, who had the royal seal of Akenaton's wife. The ship loaded the copper and tin in Cyprus for Egypt and paid in exchange for valuables and other things, and perhaps headed for Greece, but I personally have doubts about the direction of the route, because they had already loaded Mycenaean vessels on board and it would not make sense to bring them back. However, five triangular swords of arsenic copper have been found, the same as those found in Sardinia (swords of Sant'Iroxi and dated to 1500 BC) which probably belonged to the armed guard of the precious cargo, if you look at the shardana depicted at Medinet Habu the soads are the same.

best is to take the materials and examine where those materials where producing , but the trade ship could off stopped at all those places for trade on the way back.. so it varies
