I can still remember back in the 80's watching this as a young child and don't know what the fuck is going on. Because all of the cartoons back in the day had fucking deep intros. And i mean DEEP stories! Man!

Just read the comments on KZfaq on any topic and 90% of the posts by presumably teenagers and young adults - it is just "bruh" and "everyone is gangsta until...". From the heady heights of Homer's Iliad and The Odyssey to "bruh", at this rate, the next generation of teenagers will incapable of any thought at all and only be able to grunt to communicate....

If you look at Obu Wan in Attack of the Clones he bears a striking resemblance to Ulysses. Also, Ezra Bridger winds up with his gunsword in RRebels

The pacing of this intro really gets me. You've got the big flashy opening bit, you've got the gods angrily proclaiming their punishment to Ulysses, setting the stakes of the series, and then you've got him reuniting with his son, letting us know that as much as the gods bluster and boast, he'd do it all over again. It's just so much emotion jam packed into less than a minute.

One of my absolute favourite cartoons!! Being an 80’s kid was the best!! I have my own kids now and at times actually think they’re missing out on the joy of turning on the TV so excited about the next episode of your favourite show rather than the option of just streaming meaningless info for hours!!

I think we have too much choice now. I grew up with 3 then 4 channels. BBC1 and ITV had a good variety of kids shows on in the afternoon then Saturday mornings.

Great series. Im 51 now and just re-watched the full series on dvd. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as i did back in the 80's. but yeah, its totally awesome. The music in it is really atmospheric and moody, which really adds a lot to it.

I heard this theme song ONCE when i was a small boy at a cousin's house. They were rich and had cable. I don't even remember the cartoon or any images from that single episode, but the melody of the song stuck with me for over 25 years! It repeatedly popped in my head every now and then for all these years. Hearing it again now after watching this video has been the Strangest feeling ever! WOW!

this show was a childhood favorite. i had a VHS tape of the first 5 episodes for a few years, but it eventualy succumbed to the ravages of time (and repeat viewings) thank you for making this show available again.

I loved this show when I was a teenager growing up in the '80s that when they replayed it on television in my country that I recorded every episode on VHS cassette and I still have it till this day and it is still in a condition that I recorded it in.

Before i got the Region 2 UK DVD's of Ulysses 31, i had a dozen or so torrents of the show. And i remember only episode 2 had the Giant Cyclops at the very beginning. So sweet to see it now in near 720p picture quality. Thanks for this clip man, its absolutely incredible.

Jean Chalopin might not be well known, but the cartoons he produced defined lots of great memories for kids in the 80's. He's a bit of a legend imo; Ulysses 31, Jayce and the wheeled warriors, Inspector Gadget, Mysterious cities of gold, Pole Position etc etc

hugely popular. all french kids of the 80s knew it. (and "goldorak" aka Grendizer) that opening is still my favorite of all times (the french zeus voice is so imposing)

I first learned of "Ulysee 31" in '86 from what would eventually become Univision-they ran a Spanish dub of the original French program-made by DIC. Within two years, the Fox Broadcasting Company aired DIC's English version.

I remember finding the Spanish version of the show on one of those channels in a video tape a pal of mine sent me (where it was called 'Ulises Trenta Uno"), they apparently dubbed this theme song in many languages.

So i was born in Paris and left for Australia in 1985, and i LOVED this cartoon, and lucky for me the ABC had all the BEST Japan-French anime like Astroboy, lost cities of Gold and of course Ulysses 31. You've done an amazing job with this and I'm so glad i can show my girls!!!

I mean combining light and a sword is combining two existing concepts already, and swordguns were a thing in our world. It just seems logical to mix sword and blaster.
