When i was a boy my mother recited lines from Ulysses. She'd say "you are a part of all that you have met." I memorized Ulysses in honor of those lines. When she passed away in early March, 2018, I recorded the poem in honor of her life and her passing.

I was 17 when I was asked to write something on the blackboard for the graduates in our high school. I chose the last three lines of Ulysses which I loved, although I had no idea even about the proper pronunciation of words like "Ulysses" or "Hyades" or "Telemachus", back in 1964 in Hungary. Since then, on my more than meandering path of life, this poem has been one of the sinking stars that led me in my struggle to search, to find, to seek and not to yield... Thank you for re-living the experience in my 75th, dear James!

Hearing you recite Ulysses was a serendipitous gift to receive today. It is the perfect gift that I will pass on to my love who turns 70 next week. He is for ever striving, seeking to find his life’s purpose and determined not to yield or rust unburnished. Thank you.

My love to you man. Your mother sounds like a great woman. A damn sold effort. Surprisingly hard to find a good reading Makes me think of Britain. She may be an old sailor too, but much abides.

A delightful reading, spoken by one who understands the meaning, not merely the words. I appreciate you and I thank you for your time. Peace and much love to you.

It sounded like a revelation to me! Since my "green" (school) years (the early 50s last century) have I been led, guided, elightened & inspired by those final words, "To, strive, to seek, to find & not to yield" having been quite sure those were the epigraph to my favourite novel by Kaverin(a Soviet author) "Two Captains", (roughly speaking, a bit similar to"Treasure Island"by Stevenson, with no pirates but comparable because of the same grip & grasp, suspense & spirit of incredible adventure, heroism, devotion & commitmnt to the just & noble course of "striving, seeking & finding the truth, not surrending or giving up! Thank You, Sir! Life is Fun! Live & Learn! I'm 75, have been teaching English for about half a century! My priority task now - to learn this great piece of poetry & enjoy its beauty & deep eternal ideas...
