Beast for standing up and playing a solo memorized. Saw her live a couple years ago, blew my mind.

I was blown away when I heard her play a recital at Illinois State Univ. in 2005 (ITEC tuba conference). I was like, "who is this"? And then she wins the Philadelphia job....PRODIGY! :)

She has almost MIDI like consistency to her sound. Beautiful tone in all registers and highly expressive. Easily one of the world’s best, maybe one the ten (or fewer) best to ever play the instrument since its invention.

Nah, she's a woman; her horn is a beast. I know it's customary for soloists to stand, but I suggest that allowances be made for tubists as they are for cellists. Playing a tuba (not a sousaphone) standing up looks like rather effective weight training, but the concentration should really be on the music (but she plays superbly anyway).

She has a belt that does most of the work of supporting the weight of the instrument. You can see the connector clearly when she takes the tuba off at the end of the piece.

@@JoaoFurtadoCoelho777 @Joao Furtado-Coehlo I think you have misunderstood. Saying "[Person] is a beast" is a very common slang term used in America to describe that someone has exceptional playing ability on an instrument, and is pretty universally regarded as a compliment in this context. I'm pretty sure that most musicians in America, especially those of younger generations like Carol, would not be offended in the slightest by this comment, and would probably take it as the compliment that it is.

Putting ads in the middle of songs is something I truly detest. I get that they want to make money, but having a beautiful moment interrupted by a loud and obnoxious ad is the worst feeling ever

The title is somewhat ambiguous in that the soloist's name is not mentioned, but the composer's name is. There are women named Michael, though not many. Only when open up the description do we see that the Michael Daugherty is the composer and Carol Jantsch is the soloist.

Was she just holding that thing up with one arm for 22 minutes? I didn't see any sort of harness/strap...

She's wearing some sort of support belt. Right after she walks across the stage and lifts her horn, you can see her position the bottom bow onto it.
