Nippon is literally Japanese for the word Japan. Japan is what internationally known but to native Japanese, they called their country Nippon. Thor is respectful enough to call the country by its native name. Also in Okami the game, Nippon is the country under Amaterasu’s protection.

His name Issun-Bochi translates into "the One-Inch-Boy". He did become a folkhero, found the Lucky Mallet, which allowed him to grow to "normal" height and married a princess.

I think he was planned originally but in order to get the game out at the time it came out they had to scrap him and instead pad the roster out with clones of characters they already had sprites for (Bone Claw Wolverine and the multiple Ryu style clones). Making Thor would demand time to make an entirely new unique sprite set for him where as Ryu-sing other with minor colour swaps and head changes was much faster and filled more character slots.

+Cal DW That's sad to hear, I honestly feel that he and Jubilee should've been in, instead we got Marrow, who would never make a big appearance afterwards; and Cable, not that I have anything against him. At least MUGEN chars were made to fill in the gap, too bad an accurate "remake" of MvC2 can't be done with it.
