Right now it's a mixed bag because of the veto power on the Security Council but they might be getting rid of it. I think a good mix of grass roots activism and working with the UN is key. Global Governance is vital. It means global coordination in times of global crisis, such as the coming climate crisis which has some scientists legitimately turning into apocalypse preppers. The UN was founded after world war 2. It's kind of like a democracy but with the heads of states casting the votes. Currently the system is a Global Confederacy, a loose coalition of states that work towards common objectives such as the sustainable development goals. The Global Federalist element within that system is the Security Council but it has a limited scope of peace and security and 5 states with veto powers, the USA, UK, France, Russia and China. There's talk of reforming the Security Council so it doesn't have the veto anymore. Then the Security Council will become more democratic and effective in times of crisis and less likely to be deadlocked. That's what this Summit of the Future in September is all about. @@langleybeliever7789

This is one of the most important speeches ever given in this Assembly. It will be played many years from now. When next generations look back at the destruction we did to our habitats and to ourselves, when we knew exactly what the problems and the solutions were but refused to act upon them. To future generations, it was a SHAME to see this Assembly not even half full and to see people leave during this speech. This zeitgeist is trapped in an old era that refuses to evolve at the pace the challenges we face require us to. To people in the future, be better, and just care. It's not difficult. It's only a choice. And it's based on love. ❤ Good luck.

Ehh, what would you propose as a solution to stop the current insecurity and violence in Haiti? The UN has been calling for states in the region (Carribean) to come up with a plan to help stabilize Haiti. The Security Council passed a resolution for an international task force to do peace keeping missions in Haiti (Nigeria was the country that would provide troops, iirc). I hope that Haiti does get peace and security. It struggled extremely hard to gain its independence and it was heavily punished by France and other Western (in today's sense) colonial nations because of that.

Ehh, they weren't talking about receiving 500 billion USD from the US. The Secretary General was saying that that's how much they'll need for SDG (sustainable developmental goals, iirc). He's asking for all member states to contribute money, if possible, for the development of the least developed states and developing states.
