The voice of Marcella Sembrich is quite unique among so-called coloratura sopranos in that it is both brilliant and mellow. Moreover, according to Herman Klein, she has a technique identical to that of Adelina Patti. Her ornamentation places her in the tradition of 19th century vocal artists, akin to such singers as Luisa Tetrazzini, Irene Abendroth, and Margarethe Siems, while different from more modern-sounding vocalists such as Amelita Galli-Curci. Nonetheless, one can appreciate Sembrich's brilliance and style even today. We have no present-day equivalent to this legendary artist.
