Here's a description of this fascinating city. Ghardaïa is the main town of the M'Zab pentapole, a cluster of five fortified towns founded in the 11th century by the Ibadi Mozabite people. Ghardaïa is characterized by its traditional ksar architecture, featuring multi-story houses made of mudbrick and palm wood, built close together to form compact and defensive structures. The city's traditions and customs are deeply rooted in the Ibadi faith, with a strong emphasis on community, education, and social justice. Ghardaïa has a long history as a trading center, situated on the caravan routes connecting the Sahara to North Africa and Europe.
The city is known for its traditional crafts, including rug weaving, pottery, and leatherwork. Ghardaïa is also known for its vibrant music scene, with traditional instruments like the bendir and gasba being played at festivals and celebrations.Ghardaïa is surrounded by the vast expanse of the Sahara desert, offering stunning scenery of sand dunes, oases, and mountains.
