If you want to get an idea of how they would perform LIVE, then checkout their video of "2016 PopSpring" concert, where they perform 4 of their own songs. Also MTV sponsored it so the video and audio are terrific !! It's 15 minutes long, but well worth it !!

Popspring is good, but it’s also 7 years old. Hollywood Bowl 2022 live stream is an awesome recent, high quality live performance recording. Anything from that show (make sure you select the live stream versions, not fan cams) is spectacular. It’s also a good way to compare how they’ve evolved and matured over time.

This got them their first Grammy for Best Arrangement. Both the recording and video were done very cheap, like on a $400 dollar budget. The arrangement is, as you said, epic, and the sound mixing as well. PTX has very very good main arranger (Ben Bram though all of them contributes) and sound engineer (Ed Boyer) and that's why we hear this amazing piece. There is also a popular video of this where PTX sang this in a small room, a private performance, no mic. Pure talent. Daft Punk medley is a staple in their concerts (summer, world tour, Christmas) and it's just so good every single time. I might say, muscle memory

Many years ago they were performing in Australia, where Daft Punk is from, and Daft Punk heard they were going to be performing this. They showed up to PTX’s concert, dancing down the aisles and up to the judges table (it was a competition PTX was doing a special performance for), and climbed up dancing where PTX could see them. Afterwards, they went on stage to greet PTX. It was awesome. Also, Queen saw their video of Bohemian Rhapsody and actually put out a statement that it was now PTX’s song, no longer theirs exclusively. How awesome is that. A lot of celebrities love hearing their covers and even ask them to cover their songs.

@@margretrosenberg420 You thought Daft Punk was a French duo, because they were. "Daft Punk were a French electronic music duo formed in 1993 in Paris by Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo." There are multiple on-line sources for this information. While they may have been in Australia, they definitely weren't from Australia. No idea where that came from.

I'm sure Daft Punk has heard this, since PTX got a Grammy for it. I know PTX's "Bohemian Rhapsody" was approved by Brian May, Superfruit's Beyonce medley was approved by Beyonce, Leonard Cohen said he cried when he heard PTX do "Hallelujah," I believe I heard. The original artist of "Come Along," Cosmo Sheldrake, was honored by the PTX cover. Meghan Trainor loved their cover of "No" and has subsequently collaborated with Pentatonix on "Kid on Christmas" and has also had Scott do vocals on her song "Sensitive." He and his husband were in her music video for "Made You Look." I am sure any cover they do will be shared with the original artist by someone, but I wish we could know the reactions of all of them. Avi Kaplan, the bass whose low notes you appreciated, left PTX in 2017 for several personal reasons, and in 2019 began his solo career. 4 EP's, one full-length all original album, and 2 US/Canada/European tours later, he's now in the studio recording his second full album. You should delve into his music, 90% of which is original, starting with his first solo release from 2019, "Change on the Rise". After that, fast forward to 2022 for some contrast, since Avi has a lot of variety in the music he writes. "When I'm a Fool" Sunset Sound version has some of the best studio musicians in LA backing him, and the 7 Layers Sessions version of "All Is Well" was filmed in a church in Utrecht, Netherlands during his 2022 European tour and the natural reverb is stunning.

They have put out a holiday EP or album every year since 2012 -- 6 studio albums, 3 compilations and 1 EP. Their other recordings include covers of pop hits from various decades and styles including Motown, rock, country, K- and J-pop, EDM, pop divas, original songs, etc. -- 5 albums (two all- or mostly-originals), 2 compilation, 5 EPs. It also had another EDM original called Love Again (you won't believe there are no instruments), an upgrade of Can't Hold Us and an original 5 part harmony called Run to You (it is an original, not the Whitney Houston or Bryan Adams song). Ooooh... getting in to the sit-down vs standing up thing for ptx concerts.... that's a hot button topic. The band wants people to dance and sing along. It's a straight up pop concert (except for some parts like their 1 mic performance). However.... not everyone in the audience agrees and get very snippy (or abusive honestly) about how these "rude young people" are destroying the experience. Pentatonix audience seem to have a sharp divide since they have an unusual breadth in their demographic. So we have these intensely smart musicians wanting to sit and listen to the mastery of a live vocal performance. And then you have lots of people getting in to the fun. So honestly... I don't have an answer to your question. Christmas tour lean more towards casual viewers, family, older people and sitdown while summer is more concert. However, it's VERY mixed. Like... 3 generations of Church grandma to queer teen all wanting to go to the same concert. The band has heard more than once that Pentatonix is the only thing someone can agree about liking with a relative, haha.

when PTX is overseas in europe & such, concerts tend to be standing more often than not. in the US for whatever reason they always play seated venues, and the audience is mixed between sitting & standing - though PTX personally encourages everyone to stand up & dance! strangely, some folks who stay seated get VERY angry when people participate in that. recently there has even been actual violence towards people who stand !! can you imagine getting assaulted at an a cappella concert? crazy

A lot of people can’t stand for long periods of time which is why they are seated. Concerts aren’t cheap to attend and I for one wouldn’t want to have to look at someone’s rear for two hours. They should sell standing room only tickets at concerts for those who don’t want to sit at all. Give people a choice and appease ALL of the ticket payers.

@@chrispavlich9656 they should, but unfortunately how the tickets are currently sold & how most of the venues are set up, front row costs the most & you genuinely cant see *anything* if you're sitting besides the barricade between the seats and the stage. its very poorly managed but its not the fault of any fans, sitting or standing. but violence and screaming insults and ruining the show for even more people including the band is definitely not the answer

You know about the origin of Pentatonix, right? About how they won season 3 of _The Sing-Off_ with a first prize of $200,000 and a recording contract? Well, that recording contract was with Epic Records, a minor subsidiary of Sony, who sponsored _The Sing-Off._ So immediately after winning the contract all the members of Pentatonix moved to California in preparation for recording their music, and a week later Epic reneged on the contract, saying that they didn't know how to market a cappella music. But at this point Pentatonix was totally invested in staying together and making a career for themselves doing what they loved best, with the people they loved best. They weren't about to give up just because some short-sighted recording executives said there was no future in their music. So they came up with Plan B. They pooled their winnings, using the $200,000 as seed money. They lived frugally. The men shared two apartments, to cut down on rent. They arranged music and rehearsed every day. And whenever they had a song ready they'd record it on their iPhones and post it to KZfaq. It didn't take long for their fans from _The Sing-Off_ to find their channel and subscribe, and even then pentaholics were enthusiastic, so they spread the word around. And some of them became patrons. And Pentatonix started going viral. And someone at Sony sat up and took notice. "Hey, Pentatonix! Here at Sony we've concluded that Epic made a big mistake when they cancelled your contract. But we have another subsidiary, named Madison Gate. Would you be interested in a contract with them?" Darn right Pentatonix was interested! It wasn't a terribly good contract; Madison Gate specialized in movie soundtracks, so they couldn't provide Pentatonix with a recording studio, for instance. But they could and did get a company named FifGen Films to record videos for Pentatonix, and they published albums, and albums bring in money. It was a start. "Daft Punk Medley" was released on PTX Volume II, their second album, in 2013. And in 2014 it won them their first Grammy. And someone at Sony said, "Wait a minute! We got a Grammy from MADISON GATE?! Madison Gate publishes film soundtracks, not Grammy winners! What's going on here?" Eventually they figured it out, and they heard Scott's acceptance speech from the Grammys, where he said that the budget had been $400, much of which went for makeup and a single ring light, and that the audio had been recorded in a closet. Hmmm. Think what they could have done with a proper recording studio and a decent budget. "Hey, Pentatonix. Congratulations on the Grammy! We've been thinking some more, and we've concluded that you might find a better fit with our flagship company, RCA. What do you think?" Pentatonix has been with RCA ever since.

Can I make two song reaction recommendations? 1 - Edson Cordeiro & Cassia Eller - A Rainha da Noite / Satisfaction (Incredible Brazilian singers!); 2 - Nightwish - The Phantom of the Opera (Live at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki); Both you can find here on KZfaq!

Have any of the people they cover heard their songs? Yes, some. John Lennon was murdered before anyone in Pentatonix was even born, so he never had a chance to view their -cover- upgrade of "Imagine" - it would have made him proud. 😢 Freddie Mercury died of AIDS just 8 months before Mitch was born (there are people who hear PTX's cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and speculate that perhaps Mitch was born a month prematurely because he's "obviously" the reincarnation of Freddie), so he also had no chance to hear what Pentatonix did with his masterpiece. But Brian May, Queen's lead guitarist, posted a link to the official video on all his social media accounts and commented "Enjoy." Singers who are the subject of a Pentatonix "Evolution of..." video have also commented favorably. If I understand correctly, Daft Punk was a French duo and is no longer together. I THINK they were still performing when Pentatonix released this; if so, someone must have told them when Pentatonix was nominated for a Grammy for this, even more so when Pentatonix won the Grammy. That probably applies even if they'd already split up when this was released. So I would bet that they've seen and heard this cover, but I don't have any information to corroborate that speculation.

If you like Eminem, I suggest a cover of Lose Yourself by Kasey Chambers Live at the Civic Theatre, Newcastle Au. You'll love it.

I left a comment on your first PTX reactions asking that you change your audio settings to stop lowering the video volume whenever you speak or make a sound because it's terribly distracting. I didn't say anything the last time when you did it again...but now on number 3, I just don't like it. I won't be back. Sorry.

Sorry, I couldn't watch this reaction. Every time you spoke , the sound level of the music dropped. It was very annoying so I stopped watching at the 1:30 mark.

I think he has his mic adjusted to do this when he speaks so we can hear what he says. I would prefer he just pause the video as I feel he is missing parts of the reaction by speaking over the video. It is somewhat annoying.
