Building a guitar is an awesome thing to do! And now really cool inlays along the fretboard are a click away using a Laser Machine. there's still lots of work to do by hand, but the detail this Creality Falcon2 22w laser can do is stunning!

Love the subtlety between the oak and maple! It works far nicer than a high contrasting wood would.

That looks so awesome! I did the same thing for the fret slots on my last build using the laser to mark them out. I even set it up so they were blind slots stopping short of the end and used my clean out saw to do the Final Cut for the slot. Took a little longer but wow did it work awesome

Nice work! I love my laser. It’s only a 10w tho. 20w or higher would be great.

Love it. Would like to see it on ebony fingerbord and something lighter. I think that laser can cut through brass and aluminium. What about shell material? Have you tried it? And if i may, somewhat non related question - When you hand plane for thicknessing (especially for something delicate as instrument) what are the tolerances? Personally i find it very difficult to go under 0.15 mm.

That's really cool! Did you add any kerf offset for the maple pieces so they aren't too loose?

No, it the exact same laser cut. These diode laser cut around 0.1mm, just enough room to fit some glue in! They slot together perfectly!

I'm wondering if you could wait to glue the inlays after you have the fretboard on the neck, and not deal with the bench glue issue? Regardless, amazing video! I learned so much within the first minutes. Thanks for taking the time to share

My pleasure, and yes that would work. I would be slightly worried about snapping a delicate part whilst claiming to the neck though 🤷‍♂️

Wow, that's really impressive how the laser went through that thickness of oak and maple. Do you know how thick it would cut? A guitar body?

I’ve cut 12mm maple with it. It would do more with multiple passes but I don’t think you’d get body thickness out of it. I am making templates etc. though
