Unbelievable Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay Oahu, Hawaii

The snorkeling was amazing at Hanauma Bay in Oahu, Hawaii! We even saw what looked like a tornado of fish! Snorkeling there is a must do if you are in the area. So many pretty fish!

Wow, I just watched this snorkeling at Hanauma Bay in Oahu, Hawaii, and it's absolutely mind-blowing! The water is so clear and inviting, and the coral reefs are bursting with vibrant colors. It's like stepping into an underwater wonderland! The variety of fish and marine life is incredible, swimming right alongside you as you explore the bay. I can only imagine the thrill of snorkeling in such a breathtaking location. Hanauma Bay in Oahu is definitely going on my bucket list for snorkeling destinations. Looking forward to the next ones.

The sad thing is that it doesn't look the same anymore. It has been beat down by tourists trampling on the coral, and it looks mostly dead, compared to when I last saw it. Locals can confirm this. Nevertheless, it is still nice.

I noticed trampled coral as well. And soon all the coral may be white from bleaching :( We did have a lot more luck going past the first barrier of rocks/coral into the deeper parts. You can't stand on the coral there (which is good), but you can still see it really well. Most tourists don't go out that far. If they do, they already usually know to take care of the coral. Also, much bigger fish just past the signs that mention currents. You have to be careful, but we didn't have any issues other than a small rip current. I definitely want to go back someday, so I hope it doesn't get too torn up.

I went there last week, it’s the only snorkeling place I’ve ever tried, but there are no words to describe it, you just have to experience it!

Wow, what a great snorkeling spot for the first time! I agree, I love filming underwater, but there is no substitute for experiencing it yourself. It's another world underwater. Scuba can be even more amazing. Thank you for your comment.

wife and I got the chance to visit here on our Honeymoon back in 2018. Never got any underwater pictures while we were snorkeling, so it's nice to see this footage and reminisce on how incredible it was. Just a magical experience, like you're in another world! Fish everywhere you look! I remember the coral bits were quite sharp and could hurt your feet, which is why the staff mentioned to avoid those spots

Great place for a honeymoon! It truly is a magical place. We've snorkeled in many places around the world and this is still one of my favorite. So many fish just like you said. Glad we could bring back some good memories. Thanks for the great comment! Take care.

incredible footage!! did you use gopro for filiming? if so did you have to use the waterproof housing?

Thank you! Yes, I did use a GoPro for this footage. I believe that was a GoPro 7 at the time, but now I use a 9 and an 11. GoPro 7 has good stabilization, but starting with the 9 it added horizon leveling as well. Most GoPro's can go 33 feet w/o underwater housing so you would not need it here, but I do use the housing when we scuba dive. I'll have a video our very soon diving with turtles where I did use the housing. Hope that helps and thanks for visiting!

It would be great - but we could not get tickets to get in even when they say no beaches are private. Make sure you plan ahead on this one!

Oh, that's great! Isn't it wonderful there? Sooo many fish in such a small area and so many different kinds. We saw lots of the bigger fish just right past the big coral mound/rocks in the middle. I can't wait to go back!

Oh, sorry to hear that! I hate when you travel half way around the world to see something and it's closed. Sounds like other people have had problems, too. It can be hard to get tickets even when they are open. Well, hopefully you get another chance someday. Once you finally get in and get past all the people it really is a gem.
