No one can answer the question, “Who are you?” other than yourself. After all, no matter what you do, you’ll end up acting at least slightly differently around everyone, even the closest people to you. Bloom Into You doesn't address the masks we wear as necessarily a bad thing. It emphasizes them as a necessity. Those masks are a part of who we are.

If the masks we wear are different aspects of ourselves, then perhaps the way to show our faces more fully to those with whom we wish to engage is not so much to remove the mask, but to turn our head a little and show more facets to them.

i guess i've just started going on the path to discovering who i truly am, and who i want to be, i see myself in yuu and touko in ways that i dont have the energy to explain, but it makes me cry my eyes out whenever i read the manga or think about it.

Really enjoyed this one. I’m still searching for who I truly am, no doubt obtaining self-love is a key step on this journey. Can’t wait to see what you have planned for the future!

I come here, to find a second point of view of this masterpiece that, unfortunately, I have no one close to share with. I was happy listening to your videos about "Bloom into you" and I can understand the impact it had on you when I thought about how its story and its complexity surprised me. And because of that, you gained a sincere subscriber. I hope to be able to apply some of that and reflect on the things that impact me, to help me define "Who I am" or "Who I want to be."

So I found your channel a few months ago because of your Hyouka video, and I saw lots of Bloom Into You stuff but didn't click as I hadn't seen it, and didn't give much thought to it, I didn't dislike the idea of Bloom Into You but I just knew nothing about it, it didn't stand out to me much, and I had a backlog already so I kinda just forgot.

Wait up. Wasn't the title of the play "I only know you"? as a reference to the fact that Yuu's character, the nurse, only knew Touko's character the way she was in the hospital, her personality after losing memories and then the nurse recommends Touko's character to become a new herself, the way she feels like being now instead of following any of those personalities she was told to have

It always hits me when you described your experience/struggle with indifference because I have the same issue, the same approach to relationships even with people that are dear to me, yet I try not to think about it which deepens the problem. However your content makes me come face to face with it, and thanks to that I want to change. I wholeheartedly wish for you to keep changing in the direction in which you want to change. And thanks, you know, in general

Sometimes, using the words are misleading, because as you say, they are a part of you, a very real part. Masks imply that it is fake, but behaving differently with different people doesn't necessarily mean fake.

Your essays constitute for me an unprecedented kind of meta-literature, in which you may give the kinds of glimpses into another psyche that are all too rare. Of course I was drawn to them in the first place because their realization involves one of--for me--the great literary masterpieces of our time. Ha, I'm even at a stage of editing and revising a series of novels that perhaps found their impetus in Yagate kimi ni naru, in which the masks we wear is a pervasive theme. The only reason I haven't watched your Sayaka essay yet is that I haven't read all of those books yet. I had a goal to read them in Japanese, but after a couple of years my Japanese is not remotely ready yet. Either I'll read them in translation, or I'll wait until I can read the original. In the meantime may find associated nourishment in Adachi to Shimamura, which is a long series of light novels, but also a delightful anime that may strike a few chords with you . . .
