Unbound Gravel was my first completed 100 miles on a bike.. and it was an incredible day. Sunny, warm, windy, sure.. but the gravel community was alive and well making it such a fun day on the bike. Here's what I ran on my #SalsaCutthroat gravel bike for #UnboundGravel this year in Emporia, Kansas.

It’s nice to hear about the experiences that went well. A lot of unbound content out ends up being a retelling of misery (not entirely unexpected). Also! I rode those tires in 650b x 50 form in a gravel race a few months back and I can attest to them feeling way faster than they look. No issues at all. Really happy with them. Have since switched them off for slicks but they’re my go to for gravel. Quick question, did you find yourself spinning out with that chain ring?

That’s awesome! Glad you liked the video and also run the 650x50 tires! I didn’t spin out on the 38, but it’s also the max this bike can run unless I go oval, a 40 might work.

Thanks for watching! Glad you could use a few of the tips I’ve learned from others. I ran a bit high of the pressure partly because these were new tires two days before the race, so I didn’t have time to dial that in, but I started with around 30-35 psi. Usually around 25 for my comfort on bigger 2.1 tires I usually run on this bike.

Wow, you're right. My brain thought they were out of Durango or Salida. I think I have them and Oveja Negra switched up. You're right. Twin forks, MN.

At Mile 55, how much water had you consumed? And do you remember the temp that day? Thanks!

Hey! I couldn’t tell you in the water, but it was hot! Nearing triple digits if I remember correctly.

It seems chromoly steel frameset are not a good option for unbound gravel race, either non-lycra outfit. 🙄

I’d ride steel! Love steel frames. Also, just ride what’s comfortable! Most of my races I wear a wool mtb short sleeve shirt and mtb shorts. It’s what is comfortable for me. At unbound, I did ride a Garmin kit because I was working for them and they gave them to us, but didn’t make me faster, and much less comfortable in my opinion.
