Such a treasure trove of American wartime fashion! Also, I did a double-take at 16:44, realizing that I actually have that coat pattern on the left- hand page. Hollywood 930 - which featured an actress named Shirley Patterson of Columbia Pictures. It's been on my want-to-make list for a while, now.

This was So Much FUN!!! I don't know what I liked more -- the pictures, the old recipes, the fact that You Have Some, or THE CAT!!!!! It would be fun if you let us know what the different categories corresponded to (pies, frosting, etc. = skirts, tops, etc.) and what recipes you received. I wonder if they are all contemporaries of the catalogue or if they are younger than the book. EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! Stay well!

It's fascinating to look at the patterns in the USA, which are apparently designed for fabric rationing, and comparing to the patterns elsewhere where fabric rationing was obviously stricter. No pockets, no lapels, narrow skirts, fitted sleeves without puffy tops (mum grew up in the war). Designed to get the most out of a piece of fabric and while they may well have had false pockets (the top with nothing else) they certainly had nothing of what is shown in this catalogue. I find it truly fascinating and actually prefer the plainer styles without all the fancy extras on them, they were instead dressed up with extras made from scraps but which could be worn with a number of different blouses or dresses to change the looks (collars, belts, etc). Great video.

It was really fun to see the catalog; I wish we could still buy those patterns! It's interesting that the catalog refers to what people would call casual wear as "sports wear"; I have a 1940s etiquette book from my grandparents, and it refers to those kinds of clothes -- as well as more casual house dresses, skirts and blouses -- as "country wear," as opposed to "town wear." It was also fun to see P. at the beginning of the video; she's getting so big!

My dream book, but the postage and fees is mind blowing.
