I'm not being sarcastic when I say I love how chill Marques always is. Aliens could land tomorrow and his video would be like, "Hey, it's MKBHD here, and if you look behind me, you'll see something pretty dope. Those look like aliens. Definitely aliens. Their spaceship tech is, at least for 2020, pretty impressive. We'll see what happens next year, but for now, these aliens are probably the best thing you'll see for a few months."

Aww so great! I was 20 years old and had to wait for the G4. Totally worth the wait but I really wanted a blue or orange clamshell. So fun to watch this. My fave is the Apple startup saying Hello in different languages. Genius.

Interesting. I watched MK's video first, and then I came to this one afterwards, and Justine uses a more noticeable filter and skin "touch up" in her videos. MK's videos are more vibrant and sharper, allowing for seeing skin texture, while Justine's video smooths all of that out. Nothing wrong with that, just an observation. Cool.

Jody Fortuin yeah they were obviously being hyperbolic, because everybody “remembers” disc drives, because as @Khobby Josh pointed out to those that didn’t know; you can buy a new machine that has a disc (DVD) drive!! But it is true that the drive on the old iMac was a CD ROM drive. And those have not been in production for a very long time and thus merits the “remember CD drives?” exclamation. DVD drives still exist on some but not many laptops can play CD ROMs, they are in fact, not “CD” drives. And that should be the end of it, but there’s more. There’s a chance they were seriously saying “remember disc drives?” or specifically “remember before DVD drives, when there was just CD ROM?”. But more likely they were just joking and saying “remember disc drives” as hyperbole to mean “lots of laptops these days don’t have disc drives any more, and this old iMac has a CD drive.” because “OMG rEmeMbeR Cd DrIVeS” is more fun.

My first computer was 333 iMac G3. Grape. I loved that computer, but when I wandered into CompUSA and saw all the Windows software vs the Apple software that led me to adopting Windows, Dell - Dell - HP - Samsung laptop briefly - HP - Cutom Build - bought into another Apple computer with a Mac Mini, and recently an ASUS Predator gaming laptop. Had several iPads, a few iPods, my first iPhone was 11, still have it. Fun nostalgic video. My iMac was not eligible to upgrade to OSX. I think that coupled with the software and Quicktime Pro license purchases of $29 every update sent me to Window. And I dabbled a little bit in Linux in my older Windows machines.

The reason Apple shipped these things with internet explorer pre-installed was part of the deal they struck with Microsoft when Steve Jobs returned. He hated it, but he knew the deal would save Apple.

most Mac users did not use IE, they downloaded something else anyway. This move was good for Apple, not so much for MS. Interesting side note. Google was the default search engine on Mac OS many years before most people knew what "google" was.

Fun fact: Google founders Larry Page and Sergej Brin wanted to hire Steve Jobs as their CEO in the late '90s instead of Eric Schmidt (the board basically opted for Schmidt in the end telling Page and Brin that it was unrealistic to convince Jobs to take on a third CEO position). Apple and Google were very close until 2008 when Google copied iOS with Android and Jobs fired Schmidt from Apple's Board as a result.

I'm old enough to remember these. We kind of looked at them as a toy. A lot of schools had them, I believe because Apple cut some type of deal with the school districts. But in the business world, nobody was using them because they didn't have WORD or EXCEL. Nobody really used macs until the white mac books came out.

Ignacio Fuentes We had Macintoshes at my primary school up until 1998. Back then, Macintoshes weren’t that great. It wasn’t until Steve Jobs came back in 1997, that Apple started reviving itself. It was practically dead, until then.

@@QuantumJG90 Yeah...that's pretty much how I remember it. I remember thinking...why are these kids learning on Macs when nobody in the real world uses them. This was around 2001 or 2002 when I was doing some work with a major school district. The school district had Mac computer labs.

That is so cool. my first Apple machine was the PowerPC chip. Mac Pro desktop machine which I bought in year 2000 which I ended up throwing away about 10 years later when the browsers were no longer being updated because apple stop giving OS upgrades and then came out with the intel chip
