Thanks for the video. I recently had to replace an ebcm on my 2011 buick lacrosse with a used ebay ecbm. The used one still has the old vin still in it so Im getting 2 faults one is the immobilizer mismatch and one for improbable software. Luckily it didnt immobilize the car when I replaced it and its not causing the check engine light to come on just. The only light is traction stabilitrak. Anyway looking for a scanner that can reprogram the vin and software. Do you think this would do it if I bought the options. Also what did you find out about key programmig? Does the immo need to be bought as well?

BTW.. You can turn on that screen flip on the D8 also. It's in the settings, under "display". And I was looking and seen that there was a "backup and reset" option there. Is there a way to back up all the updates and save them somewhere else? I'm sure it will never be a problem, but I'd hate for my free-updates to run out and then it all gets erased somehow-- and I'd have to pay just to update it again. Is there a way to backup the data, that you know of? (on the xtool D8)

These scan tools are way to to expensive especially the yearly paying per specific bi direction functions… not worth the money in my opinion. I know some people get free scan tools to review but I wouldn’t recommend this one even if they have it to me.

I found a new Launch X431 Pro3S+ on Amazon in May 2021 for only $63.60 so I jumped on it immediately since the list was $1190.00 I thought for sure the order would be cancelled but the seller actually let the sale proceed. The seller, Kingbolen, emailed a couple times and said an operation error caused a $50,000 loss because all 50 units sold at that low $60 price and asked for another $500 saying the boss agreed to a 50% discount. Their loss dampened my glee about my bargain purchase but expendable cash just wasn’t possible. Anyway, I stumbled upon this YT video hoping to glean some info on how to use it and it appears there’s not much difference between the two models except I have the kickstand (which I use to hook the steering wheel) and it doesn’t have the BT to tablet cradle as yours has. Mine says V2 on the back but eventually it updated to V7. The case differs a bit too, mine has vertical line ribs above and below where it says LAUNCH and has a finely textured surface,like what’s on your handle, while your case appears to have more of a cross-hatched surface. Instead of slide locks, my case has red plastic latches and while your adapters are nestled in the foam, mine are in several plastic bags hidden behind a double door in the upper lid. Essentially no significant differences since both say Lenovo TAB M10 FHD Rel. Quite a few service functions on the scan tool will often say “car model not supported,” such as “compare sample’ so just because it’s listed doesn’t mean it’ll perform. I suspect the start/stop function shortens the life of engines, but not until it’s out of warranty of course, much like what happens with direct fuel injected engines. I recall at some point the tablet wanted to save memory or something and wanted to do something with things I haven’t been using, maybe like putting ‘em to sleep but I don’t think I agreed. (mine has 64 GB memory, 33% used) Many of the software updates are for vehicles that I’ll never see in the U.S. so I didn’t bother installing 75 of them. I doubt I’ll renew when the 2 years free update is up so we’ll see if it becomes a brick when it expires 5/24/2023. The “mall” says a standard software configuration renewal: $438.70 for 12 months, $701.92 for 24 months, and $1039.71 for 36 months. But I suppose by the time my scanner needs it. Those prices will be higher. Thanks for the tip about putting the battery percentage in the status bar. I don’t recall how long it took to charge but it sure seemed like a long time and I couldn’t use it while it was charging. My unit used 43% for 1hr 27 min of screen usage. BTW, when you mentioned Xtool and Autel, I discovered the Xhorse VVDI mini programmer requires their special chipped key so I returned it because I thought it was shady not to mention that upfront. One other thing, @ 24:55 note the data stream value changed from blue to red, which denotes an out-of-range abnormality. My hunt continues for X-431 videos showing problematic readings.
