i’ve said it so many times on my channel but if you’re new to my channel, i will clarify here: i am against fanfic for profit, of any kind. mel, the person who gifted me the fanfic, is a good friend of mine, one of my best friends. we don’t exchange any money for the binds she gifts me. i talk about it in every other video so anyone questioning it would be new to my channel. i definitely am against ppl selling/making fanfic for profit, and so is my friend. @melbindsfic

@@TiffWaffles I read manacled on ao3 where the author posted it, and then I was considering reading a couple others from ao3. I do however want to try binding manacled so I can have a copy but know there’s a lot of issues with purchasing them and want to steer clear of that!

If the author of the fanfiction authorize it, you can print the fanfic and bind it yourself or have a friend do it for you FOR FREE. Anything else is completely illegal and very dangerous to the future legality of fanfictions existence.

Since people seem to be confused in the comments : the binding and printing of fanfiction is totally illegal unless it is FREE and the person that do the binding has the authorization from the author of the fanfiction. If the author of a fanfic authorize the binding of their fanfic, you can either do it yourself or have someone do it for you again FOR FREE (which is the case in this video). If someone on the internet are selling binding of Fanfictions, it means that they are STEALING the work of someone AND is a complete infragment of copyright law. Fanfictions can only exist if it remains comletely non profit. If the practice of binding and selling fanfics continues, fanfictions will become illegals.

@@ellyra412 no worries, i know the fanfic selling for profit binding is a really bad issue right now. i really brain farted when i filmed and edited this lol because normally i do a whole disclaimer telling people not to buy fanfic, its free. your comment was totally fine. i’ve had some other comments be kind of aggressive but at this point i am used to it, and i understand where people are coming from, but yea ive never paid for fanfic and i wont ever. it’s literally free lol it blows my mind that people want to pay for something they can read for free. ive reported the etsy shops selling fanfic but then they come back the next day, its just sad.

@@JulEnglefaris from my experience, it’s usually stated as a disclaimer before the fic if an author does not want their fic to be printed, but it’s usually specific to people trying to profit off fanfic, rather than the fandom wanting to bind. otherwise, the fic would go by what AO3 has as the rules, which is to not profit on the fanfic. but yea if the fic states to ask for permission before printing, mel has gotten permission in the past. but for the most part, fanfic authors are not against book binding, as the hobby is a part of the fandom in a sense. they are just against anyone profiting off it, so they will make the disclaimer to not print it for profit. hope this makes sense! again i just know from my experience/the disclaimers ive read, but i cant speak for every fanfic author.
