@@KyrstOak well it's not really even accurate to say that it's secure. You need to harden Linux for it to be secure, and most distros aren't. Linux is obviously better for privacy than Windows 10 though, and you can make it more secure if you take the time to do it. Edit: forgot to mention that Linux does have less unknown vulnerabilities that are being secretly exploited because it's open source.

@@fossware system76 laptops still have the ime. we currently do not know how to remove the ime from any of the core i3/i5/i7s, as far as i know. when you install coreboot (like system76 does for their computer) they run something called the "me cleaner" which *mitigates* the ime but it's still there, physically

Andry Tafa, I personally have no reason to use linux other than for educational purposes, because Windows supports more games, has more natural menus, and is pretty secure if you're tech savvy. I know that linux is inherently more secure than both Windows and OS X due to the UAC and because it's less of a target than the other two OS's, and it is more customizable, but you can change the shell of Windows easily if you know how to, and a good anti-virus along with memory compartmentalization should do the trick. Don't get me wrong; I don't have anything against linux, I just think that common sense and tech skills go a longer way in protecting your system rather than just using a particular OS (especially with the browser-dependent malware out there).

@@chris_hawk :) In my opinion Linux is really fun, and actually really good for programmers (like me) depending on what kind of software you develop. And in the last years Linux has become really good and user friendly. Once the initial setup is done (and it's not hard at all) even a granny that never used a computer before can use Linux for general web browsing and Facebook for example. Whereas windows would drive granny crazy with all the drivers and the issues (and the viruses than an old person could fall into). Windows main advantage are just software support for: - office (mainly because of Microsoft's 365 office suite) - gaming (only games with easy-anti-cheat) - general software and creatives

@T-Rex Dino depends on what you're worried about. If you want to do something illegal you'll want to use wifi at a cafe. I think mechanical switch for mic and webcam should be mandatory. Most people use those so little anyway so it's just waste to keep them on, on top of being invasive. Unless you use windows hello. Wireless switch is also cool, but because laptops are almost always connected to some wifi I don't think it's much of a issue. Switch that automatically kills wireless when you fold the laptop on other hand would be nice feature.
