i’m getting my first ever Macbook M1, but which one should i get: M1 Macbook Air with 16gb ram or the base model of M1 Macbook air with 8gb ram? Im going to use it for school....word, excel, powerpoint, Discord, browsing, Netflix and youtube.

8 ram works perfectly fine if that’s what you’re going to use it for, unless you would use it for gaming then 16 ram is better and for better performance in higher use as in editing and stuff. But if not, 8 ram does the job really well no need.

maybe if you need extra and powerful performance you can choose 16gb, but if you only need to run ordinary apps i think 8gb is enough ☺️

Btw aku juga lg planning beli MacBook Air baru, tp aku nunggu yg 2022 ini, based on reliable apple leakers, yg 2022 ini bakal ada mini led display kyk yg di MacBook Pro 14 and 16inch, brand new design, new colors sm M2 chip yg lebih cepet. soalnya MacBook Air ku yg skrng yg 2018, designya sama persis kaya yg m1 ini. Aku mau fresh new design hehehe karena sebenarnya m1 MacBook Air ini designya based on yg thn 2018 dan yg 2018 itu designya jg based on MacBook Pro yg 2016, jd designnya udh 6 tahun, udh lama gitu. Displaynya jg masih pake lcd biasa. tp overall m1 MacBook Air meskipun masih pake design lama & display lama, the m1 chip bakal bikin laptopnya futureproof bngt.

Buy an external SSD instead, its cheaper and you get more storage for the money. Upgrade your ram if you are planning on having it for many years. If you really want to have everything in one place, sure upgrade the storage, but its way more expensive than to buy an external SSD

Yes that’s completely fine just know that if you want to edit a really long video like an hour plus you need 16 GB

@@scorpio3 Yes that is fine with 8gb. If it doesn’t work at all, you can always bring it back to apple to replace it. I use 8gb and it’s fine for editing 40minute videos in 1080p-4k

no lie i know macbooks are reliable nd all but hey, if u are to get one, get a 512 gigs model cause u can find much better deals. I bought a gaming laptop with an 11th gen core i7 and an rtx 3070 with 1 tb ssd and 16 gigs of ram Choose carefully!!
