Your commentary on the OMG doll is hilarious because I randomly saw it and was like oh... they gave this white doll braids. 🤣

Ever since I've been spoiled by the Made To Move body for Barbie and Obitsu for my other dolls, I just can't understand how people wouldn't want posable collector dolls. When I display my dolls, they feel so much more animated and wonderfully display the personality I come up for them in my head. Goodness, what gorgeous dolls though! They really do look like a power couple, or at least power besties. Love the review and your thoughts as always!!! ^o^

So agree with everything you said about articulation! I also think that it is time we have a MTM model muse body as well. Also, hands need to be easily removable for dressing or changing hands!

Dude your videos are the best - you say everything we all want to say! Also, your critiques are spot on - the models, the paint, the fashion * chefs kiss *

The Claudette doll features can be from anywhere, not necessarily African, I am from the middle-east, I have the Claudette 2016 holiday Barbie as my mini me (my friend and family told me that she is the closest one to look like me) even though the skin complexion is a bit darker, the one that you showed has a tanned complexion which is closer to mine except for the hair color :D We can imagine the dolls from different parts from the world with different races, and it is just a doll, that is the point behind dolls right? I love your content, keep up the good work!

Dolls become more alive when they have articulation. every barbie/ken doll should be articulated, period!

Model Muse sculpt holds more of a natural pose, the way their fingers grab their waist, the bend of the knees, the twist of their waist etc. They overall look more seamless and elegant. Although the price point could be a little lower compared to the articulated ones (although i understand Mattel put the high price to create an exclusivity to the doll)

I agree I think the model muse body has its purpose for just modelling, certainly more appealing than the fashionista bodies. Would be cool to see curvy model muse and such actually. But the made to move is more preferable for me in terms of changing poses after outfit changes and most importantly doll photography and stop motion

I agree. I really love the model muse body and I also prefer it over mtm because it looks more model esque and most clothes look better on it imo. One of my friends calls mtm “fashionista hog body” and it do kinda look like it tbh lmao

I definitely am learning from you about the Barbie name head sculpts. I truly thank you and your platform for that knowledge. I do like the Barbie and ken doll. The claudette head sculpt is cute. I agree with you about the lol dolls. Swag puts me in mind of Christina and Brittany with braids.

My Candylicious doll has darker skin than swag lol and she’s def a white girl. Her animated model is even whiter than the actual doll. Also I super hope they use Tate more, I adore his sculpt.

Congratulations Ethan, your wish has come true! I had commented previously that Mattel would eventually produce an Expresso/Nubian skin tone Made To Move body. Although the first will be the tall body, hopefully, an original will be next for the collecting community!

Thanks for another great video! I love these head sculpts, especially done in different skintones and haircolors but I am not a fan of the cheap looking outfits, and I am so over the lack of articulation.

i just received my first Claudette doll (2016 Holiday Barbie) the other day, and she's Dominican to me. i like her an awful lot, but i feel overwhelmed by her somehow. Almost like she's too good to be part of my collection or something. Lol

LOL OMG Swag *absolutely* looks like a white girl in braids. When I saw her I got flashbacks to the infamous Happy D from the short-lived Flavas doll line. 😕 People who don’t see that must not remember the time when Christina Aguilera and P!nk were going around wearing cornrows and getting away with it. 😒 I agree with you about articulation-the more articulation, the better! But I can live without it; a lack of it doesn’t hugely impact my enjoyment of a doll. Though I know every collector has their own preferences, and that’s ok. I really feel that with convention dolls, though, MOST of the people who get them at the con are just going to keep them in their boxes (or sell them…while they’re still in their boxes). Or maybe put them in a glass case to display them and barely ever touch them. So TBH Mattel is probably trying to maximize profit on these short-run dolls by putting them on basic-y bodies and just making sure they look good in the box. Annoying? Yes. Understandable? Mmmm…I’m doing that “so-so” hand-waving motion; you just can’t see it. 😆 This is just my personal hypothesis, though. 🤷🏻‍♀️ One of the BEST things about dolls is that you can interpret characters any way you want, and can do your own thing with them! (Says the woman who has crafted a complex backstory for her dolls since she was a kid.) And savvy toy companies know that people of all ages love to make headcanons, and will make a doll as, shall we say, non-specific as possible. Why? Again: to maximize profits. The more people who identify with the doll, the more people who will like them, and that leads to more people buying them! It’s the same principle Scott McCloud writes about in “Understanding Comics”, where he says comic artists will sometimes make a leading character more on the vague side, so more readers will see them through their own POV. Final comment: More Tate would be good kthx

The Fierce version of Swag copied Chun Li's look, she basically took a pair of scissors & cut her tracksuit into the shape of Chun Li's qipao. Then wore white fishnet leggings & yellow high boots instead of Chun Li's brown leggings & white high boots. Of course, none of the MGA stans noticed. 🙄

MGA has a long history with cultural appropriation, it doesn’t take much research to know that. So their stans will excuse it when it comes from them.

@@BarbiesGBF yeah, like RH's Lila Yamamoto(she should've went with an "ambiguous" last name like Meena Fleur since Lila is a blend of 3 east asian styles & not just japanese). I hate when corporations blend races into a race slurry(like Raya & the Last Dragon did to SEA people). 😠

To me if the doll isn't articulated it's just an over priced Fashionista doll. Mattel really needs to get it together. All dolls made in this era need to be mtm. If I buy a Fashionista it more than likely end up articulated in my collection.

Sorry but you are completely wrong! The best body type for collectors is the Model Muse, it’s the most stylish. MTM looks like robots with articulation.

I don’t have an issue with the “robot” joints. They are like action figures to me. I didn’t suggest that they come made to move, only that they come with SOME kind of articulation.

"Best" doll body type is a personal preference. A survey would be interesting, but I do think that most collectors (at least the ones on social media) now want some degree of articulation. A large factor is whether one wants to just display the doll on a shelf or one wants to restyle and photograph. I personally see the merits in both, and I have a mixture, including the pivotal bodies like the Barbie Extras (probably my favourite).
