Such a great assortment of stamps! The independent postal service stamps are very interesting and it would be great to learn more about it. I like the binders with the postmarks, there is a lot of history there. Thanks for another great video.

My pleasure to be able to talk about these things. I hope to go into more detail on the private postal companies in the future.

So many interesting philatelic items! I was happy to see the Chilean stamp 🤩. That stamp is from a complementary series of Chilean Presidents and Famous Figures, that one is the image of O'Higgins, one of the "fathers" and founders of the Republic of Chile. It was issued several times between 1912 and 1928.

I'm always amused by the fact that O'Higgins was a founding father of the Republic of Chile - such a Chilean surname. 😁

Thanks for the video, Rob. Everything was interesting, especially the revenue stamps from Stephen. I liked the Namibian shell stamp as well. For me stamps are still my main interest. I know there is a lot of history and information in postal history, but I have not felt to collect them.

Hi Rob, Those were the stamps I was thinking of earlier. Glad they got to you and pleased that they are of interest to you. Amazing that they arrived at such a useful time. I think I inherited them from my wife('s side of the family) who has not quite distant relations, but not quite near relations either (I think they share a grandmother or great aunt or something). I was fascinated by the 3/4 cent overprint on the War Tax stamp. Nothing quite like an obscure amount to mess with your head. It makes me wonder whether they sat cutting up 1 cent pieces with metal cutters while cackling something about pieces of eight, though I'm sure the reality was far less dramatic or interesting. Double, double... Lovely stamps from your viewers. (Please also see my comment to Bennett's comment). As you know, I am not a fan of postmarks, or at least not if they're on stamps, but I think postal markings can be a fascinating subject and if you were interested in veering off in that direction, this auction buy would definitely make a good beginning to the collection. Either way, the collection (especially the larger book) seems to have been very well researched and could form the basis of an very useful reference guide. Mind you, I agree with Basil that roller cancellations are an abomination, barely one step up from a pen cancellation, or worse still a Sharpie cancellation. The stuff of nightmares - imagine spending your life in a mail sorting office endlessly and mindlessly roller cancelling everything that appears before you. Talk about cruel and unusual punishment! I think I now understand where, how and why the expression 'to go postal' originated.

Hahaha. Well I guess there was a job for everyone and not everyone appreciated their work heehee I don’t think I will vear off and collect cancellation mark but I don’t mind showing them and talking about them as it is a part of postal history

Glad they got to you! NZ has an interesting situation currently where the state owned post is actively trying to rid it's mail side of the business in favour of just the courier aspect, which I find so sad! It is good for our company though & despite working for private I do have a proud sense of service to the community I cover as I think most posties do. I did try to find more variety in what I sent but it turns out NZ, not just our company, is rather obsessed with the natural beauty theme 😅 Cool to hear of your trip to Auckland too and great to make your acquaintance. Ps - happy to provide more info on private postal, I have been looking into it since discovering NZ is (almost) alone in this regard

@BennettMorgan-cf5mb Hi Bennett, Just out of curiosity, are the stamps from your company only valid for postage on domestic mail or can they also be used on international mail? I know that the UK has a private postal company providing stamps for international postcards. It seems that separate stamps are produced for each area. For example, I have seen stamps with an image of Stone Henge for use in that area and at one time when I was in Scotland I used some stamps from the same company with a Scottish theme. I have also received a postcard in an envelope from Portugal with a private company stamp. As far as I know, stamps from these companies are not listed in most catalogues, though perhaps maybe they should be. Kyrgyzstan has two postal carriers: Kyrgyz Post and Kyrgyz Express Post. The stamps from both of these are listed in most catalogues. Not sure why the cataloguing discrepancy.

@@stephenogier7499 Hi Stephen You are correct there are quite a few companies who issue stamps, in terms of who can actually deliver and the legality of including the name of the country on the stamps this is more tightly controlled (in fact I think NZ may be alone on the second point, I could be wrong. I'd be interested to know more on the Portuguese stamp you have). Our company has been legally able to carry the name 'New Zealand' on international stamps since postal reform in the 90s. In our case yes we provide both international and domestic stamps, they're issued separately
