Don’t take this wrong way, I’m only trying to help you and your new pets. 😊 You should strongly consider removing those rocks from your pond. The reason it’s so cloudy and as you mentioned full of bad bacteria is all the detritus in the pond. Nature would never have that many rocks, waste and fish with minimum filtration in such a small area. If you empty all the rocks, you will create more volume and space for your fish. They are of good quality and genetics and will outgrow your water garden pond quickly and tax your filters. A koi pond should never have to drained and cleaned if built properly. I clean ponds for a living and see what damage rocks can cause which I occasionally relay on my channel in hopes others don’t have the same problems I’ve encountered when visiting ponds which are sick. Again, please don’t take offense and please reconsider your pond design for the future of your investment and their overall well-being. I’d be happy to answer any questions if you Jhabvala any. Happy ponding!! 👍

His bond was literally created by pond experts and professionals. He def should make it big but nothings wrong
@CapeFearKoi
@CapeFearKoi 3 жыл бұрын
@@Bibblesupremacy1992 there’s a difference between a backyard pond and a koi pond. Sometimes there are ponds with low grade koi and they are fun to watch, but with his purchase of quality and potential size, he’s going to need much more than a glorified garden pond. The reason it has to be emptied every year is because it’s unhealthy and unsustainable to its inhabitants. Ask anyone who deals with higher grade fish and ponds and they will all say the same thing in which he needs to accommodate his fish. Because something is popular, doesn’t always mean it’s better. I’m not at all trying pick fights or argue, just trying to lend a helping hand. He even mentioned in one of his recent videos that he didn’t really know anything about koi and learned most of it on his recent trip to Japan, which is all good! No one knows everything and we all start somewhere. When I first got into ponds, I thought his style pond was totally normal and good until I researched what truly is better for koi vs a garden pond like he has. All is good! Just hoping to lend a little help! 👍

@@CapeFearKoi 100% Right! Most of those posting likes on here have no idea what’s required to keep Koi! And the person who built that pond either didn’t know it was going to be used to house Koi or more worrying, don’t understand the requirements of a pond used to keep Koi!
@CapeFearKoi
@CapeFearKoi 3 жыл бұрын
@@ces69 absolutely. If there was ever a thought that koi were going into the pond, it should never have been designed that way or built so small. It was more than likely an advertising pond by the builder to gain views and recognition rather than building a healthy pond dedicated for its inhabitants. I’d put money by the end of the year it has to be re built or be starts losing fish to disease. I wouldn’t be surprised if a heron doesn’t come by and wipe him out since it was built too shallow to offer protection. I’m not hoping that all and hope it’s netted for their security. His pond needs a complete overhaul and built to be a koi pond instead of a water feature.

Glad you got your kois now. I have followed your Japan koi saga and it was amazing! Just a little bit of trivia too. Kois are indeed hardy fishes and they do live that long. Hanako, the longest living koi ever recorded in history, lived up to 220+ years. She was in a pond in a mountain temple and analysis of her scales proved she is hundreds of years old.

@@John-Ebsen first of all Koi don’t get more valuable when they arrived at a hobbyists it’s pond, only when you are a business it’s of course normal that prices are going up. In the end dealers need to earn their money. Second: in Europe you pay maybe $1500,- for all those 10 koi in that bowl (retail prices). I am surprised that Koi are so overrated in the states when it becomes to pricing them, someone is making tons of money on them or they don’t know how to rate quality vs prices. If those Koi are worth 10K I would be a millionaire with the Koi I own. I don’t want to hate and this is nothing personal to the owner but some people need to start recognize quality over money. Japanese breeders don’t talk about money or prices of their koi. Overrating prices and quality are destroying our beautiful hobby.

I've been building ponds and selling koi for 16 years. Everything about this video is so completely wrong. That pond should NEVER have koi in it. It's a tiny rock bottom pond with terrible filtration, fine for 2 or 3 goldfish max! And predators will devour those koi in such a tiny shallow space. Its just a little aquascapes pond, not a koi pond. Also, just because the fish got bigger does NOT make them worth thousands more. They are nice looking koi worth a couple hundred dollars each, not thousands, not even close. Total BS salsemen crap that drives me nuts. But please do not put those koi in that pond! Either they will be sushi for racoons or poor water quality will kill them all within a year.

Love your koi! Your trip to Japan was amazing! I hope to visit someday! I live in the boonies of TN. When we bought this property, it was overgrown and we had no idea what it look like. After clearing we found we had 2 small natural ponds in the back yard. I bought some cheap goldfish and plopped them in! They grew so big so fast! 5 out of 8 made it through the first winter all 5 made it thru the 2nd winter my 1" fish had grown to 8" -11" long and I loved them so much!the 3rd summer a hawk discovered my little paradise and all 5 of my sweet fish, 3 chickens, 2 ducks, and a turkey were victims! Heart breaking!!!! My suggestion is to attract crows/blackbirds to your yard! They hate hawks and will attack the hawks for coming around. They won't eat your fish and are smart friendly birds as long as you don't hurt or scare them. I would really hate to see your beautiful koi go missing! Mine we're on sale for ... .49 each at Wal-Mart. I loved them and it was heart breaking but nothing like your trip and experience not to mention investment in your babies. Just be careful! 💖 culver is my low key favorite!💖

Actually 1.5 m, probably depending on the climate in winter, plus 1 m3 per fish at least - with the amount of koi he ordered, he needs to use the whole garden 😉

Put some terracotta drain pipes in the bottom as its a hiding place for them if predators do come. they’ll blend in when algae takes over

If this pond doesn't have a net over it, how do you stop birds of prey from swooping down and stealing your fish?

Thanks for a very complete and honest video describing this process. You made a very good choice of colors, as well. There is just one or two things that I gotta say. Please don’t ever make a such a big water change, especially with the fish in there. That water is like a living thing; aged water so to speak. In addition, try to join your local koi club for advice on maintaining this system. I’m over 50 now and I have been into this hobby since I was 12. I’ve seen a lot a ponds and helped maintain my parents pond for 15 years when I lived in Arizona. It’s a wonderful hobby. Enjoy!
