I recently got some isopods from a lady and her 12 yr old son (the business was his idea, how cool is that?) And man, their packaging gave me a run for the money! They had let the little deli cup into a very thick styrofoam block in the center and then bonded another thick one on top. I fought the packaging for a good 10 minutes to get it apart but hey, their packaging saved my isopods. They had arrived earlier than expected, right after a relatively cold night of 48°F. Normally when things come early I get excited but this time I was like NOOOOO of all days, not today. I really thought they'd be dead but they were all fine. I'm now waiting for my hornworm order to spoil my guy a little. Also got some dubias and will attempt breeding them. I got 25 small ones and 2 breeder pairs. 🤞🏻

Oh, guess I should share the store, I really think it's awesome her son is so passionate about this at his age. Their prices are the best I could find so far. The store is called pocket pets on amazon. They sell 30+ standard isopods of smaller size for $22.99 (that is with free shipping). They wrote my name on the styrofoam and on the deli cup with little smiley faces, so wholesome to see that coming from a 12 year old. Thought I'd leave this here in case anybody is interested. Paying 20+ dollars for 10 isopods is a bit crazy to me, this was a good deal in comparison. Of course if you are really in it for the morphs and all, I understand spending more, but if you just want a cleanup crew that is a bit steep.

They come like this when ordered from Pets At Home but i found the postage was a good few days or even 4 days which had me over the other day as I had no food for a day or two to give my gecko and there was no mealworms in any stores near me! I have a cricket that has survived a few months in my cricket keeper 😨😳 I am pretty sure I bought a pack of them before at the beginning of lockdown and that cricket is from that pack. I bought locusts after and then I have rrly tiny crickets again. They are rrly big compared to the others in my cricket keeper that's how I can tell. And plus I saw it in with my locusts. Also I put a darkling beetle in with my crickets to help clean up. It layed eggs and now I have tons of tiny meal worms in the cricket/locust keeper. Great👏
@danluna7916
@danluna7916 4 жыл бұрын
Its interesting to see the different packaging. For the US if you order from Josh's frogs, crickets usually comes in something similar to one of the tootsie roll banks. Inside it has a a heatpack and cardboard. Mealworms are in larger plastic containers like deli cups. Which is then put in a standard cardboard box. I was not aware that the UK has an option where it is letterbox sized feeder boxes. Very cool. Also I just wanted to say Thank You again for sharing. This was a very informative and interesting video.

Is it repashy calcium plus? I know a lot of people use that. All you need alongside that is maybe just a calcium powder. You can actually make your own calcium from cuttlefish bone and/or egg shells. But generally calcium isn't overly expensive to buy, so if the cost is a problem with your parents, then calcium should be find to get hold of :)

Welp, cut one in half(yes , I just said that) but do it in front of your crestie, let it lick the guts out of both of the halves, and then let it smell the hollow skin, then fry feeding it a live one, keep doing this until it eats , if it doesn't work, then just put it all in a food processor

I recently bought a beautiful baby leopard gecko, and he hasn’t been eating at all, but apparently that’s usual as they get comfortable with a new home. The thing is that the breeder used food bowls of mealworms, and I want to teach him hand feeding/hunting for his food. Are there any methods to encourage these types of more stimulating feeding as opposed to a bowl?

Hi I just got a leopard gecko like 5 days ago and he isn’t eating but he also just shed 2 days ago and he still is a little scared of me but he doesn’t run away now when I come up to the cage what should my next step be to bonding
@mysteryexamples2129
@mysteryexamples2129 4 жыл бұрын
Cayla’s Animals handle the gecko every day around 6ish, start with 5 minutes a day and slowly make it longer with each day. Try to read the geckos body language when you handle them. If they seem comfortable you can bump up the time handling to maybe 10 minutes. Handle your gecko in a quiet room on the floor or on your bed so if they run of they won’t hurt themselves If you are comfortable with it, hand feeding your Leo is really good for the bonding experience. Build a “sound” for you Leo. Like every time you feed them make the sound, or every time you come up to the cage make the sound. Like clicking your lips like you would for a dog or cat. I hope this helps! Have fun with your new best friend! They are truly amazing creatures!

I would say to let them become comfortable with u u can put your hand in their set up but don’t touch them or anything just place your hand in there so they can realize u aren’t a threat. For feeding u can try to feed him by getting his attention on the food or u can just leave a dish in their set up with some worms or crickets or whatever u feed them and he might eat throughout the night (make sure the food won’t be able to escape)

Cayla’s Animals Cayla’s Animals it’s okay. Take a breathe I know you are probably stressed out. You have a new pet. It’s okay to be panicked and stressed. Just breathe. You Leo might not eat for a little. Try different feeder insects, what were they eating before? Try feeding them that, and try feed the insects different food. You gecko is probably still getting adjusted so they might not eat, neither did mine. Just be patient. If you have any concerns or questions I’m not a professional by any means but I will happily share my experiences and information I’ve gathered. You’ve got this.

You can just feed your feeders fruits and veggies such as carrot, potato, and greens. No need for commercial gutload. As for calcium and multivitamins: Repashy Calcium Plus is a great all in one. Zoo med supplements are good as well. If you’re using UVB, Arcadia’s supplements are great.

Would totally love to try this service, I usually get a quite a few dead crickets whenever I order from Swell Reptiles so I went to my LPS and I'm not even kidding, almost all the crickets were dead by day two... 🤭 They had enough ventilation, hiding places and fresh food, so have no idea what happened as I've kept crickets in the past just fine (just plucked out the dead ones from Swell). I only have one crestie though and they're only young, so usually I end up not being able to feed all the crickets to them since they just get bigger pretty quick... Would love another gecko to help finish the livefood but it's up to my parents and they're not budging atm 😂

Lol I have the same problem. I used to buy crickets at pets at home. They were terrible most of them were dead. They didn't have replies in that store maybe that's why😂. Now I buy them from a small reptile shop near me and they are cheaper and last way longer. I don't feed too much though so they grow and get too big. They are like invincible if u feed them. 😰 I have one that has survived all lockdown since the beginning. It's *too big* for my gecko so let's let it live. (What a lucky cricket I could actually give u to my gecko still but I think ur disgusting when ur big and I won't touch u)😂

@@EZS248 I didn't even get mine from PetsatHome and never will tbh, the crickets are just dying out a lot more recently and I refuse to feed the surviving ones just in case they've got something wrong with them too. 🤭 I did get some from Swell before as babies and 'most' survived into adulthood (had a big male that we called Boris and couldn't feed him for being too big 😂) , but my GOD do they stink... Think I might try ordering small locusts from this place or Internet/Swell to see how they do, they seem easier to feed to geckos too since they can't really scuttle away if they jump out the tub. 😂

@@paleywhaley1006 lol pets at home take terrible care of crickets and live feeders. And plus they have really old ones because they don't have reptiles to feed in my area as they only have fish and rodents. I buy them from a small local reptile shop where they have different reptiles that they feed with them so they have much more fresh ones. People often use oats as bedding for the feeders to eat, although oats bind calcium and aren’t a good option. Mealworms and superworms like to burrow in substrate. And if you use soil for crickets it can help with the smell. But bedding isn’t 100% necessary, especially for crickets.
