Love your videos Loco Leighton 😀 I was about to buy this loco myself but seeing that you can't run it with steam or sound on DC I probably won't because I don't have a DCC setup yet 😞
@LocoLeighton
@LocoLeighton 4 ай бұрын
Hello Brad 👋🏻 That is very nice of you to say 😊 You can run it using a compatible DC power supply and the Hornby HM7020 adapter to run on Bluetooth control. Unfortunately the sound and steam can’t be run directly on DC control and running the motor just on that is not recommended for this version of the P2. Thanks for your support and for watching 👍🏻

I did not think the loco running over the points was too bad, a loco this size is always going to struggle over a set track points crossover. For locos this size you are better off with a peco streamlined points on a crossover.

I'm barely getting a "wisp" of vapour from my P2. My loco also started to "screech" badly after about 30 minutes of use - but after lubrication, this stopped. My other concern was the decoder cannot be read by my ECoS system. Trying to read the decoder causes the ECoS to "short out" - so the only way to address the loco was either via the App or by another DCC Controller (luckily, I have a Gaugemaster Prodigy 2 as spare - so I used this. I recently fitted a TXS HM7000 sound decoder into a Hornby diesel locomotive and that was a nightmare! My ECoS (again) couldn't read the decoder and control could only be via the App (it wouldn't toggle between DCC and Bluetooth. Luckily - following an email to Hornby Technical Services who advised of a decoder reset and a CV change this remedied the issue, but In future I think I'll be sticking to Bachmann!

Hello 👋🏻 Sorry to hear you are having trouble with yours 😔 With the steam function how far are you pushing the pipette? It is tempting to push it too far in until it feels like you are breaking through a seal. I made that mistake when first filling which caused only a tiny amount of steam to come out. The tip only needs to go in a little way into the filling point. Hope this is of some help otherwise it sounds like a faulty generator. Thanks for sharing your experience and for watching the video 👍🏻

An okay review, however, it would have been nice to see how it performs pulling a realistic load of say 8-10 carriages, showing it pulling what Thomas the Tank engine would pulls tells us Zero to zilch. Or are you saying the steams great but it has no pulling power ?

Hello Paul 👋🏻 Thank you for all your feedback which will be taken onboard for the future 😊 My current layout could probably handle large rakes for reviews but I've been working on a larger test track in my loft for this reason. Been paint the walls over the last few days and plan to lay the carpet tomorrow. Again thanks for your input and watching 👍🏻

Can you do a video of it pulling 8-10 coaches so we can see what it can do. You will get views because people want to know. It does not matter that your layout does not have long straight, we all want to know if it pulls a realisitic load. Cheers. @@LocoLeighton

@@PaulBriden No problem Paul, will create a follow up video over the next couple of days. If you have anything else you feel would be good to include let me know. Another thing I want to look into is water quality. It is not mentioned in the instructions (that I've seen) but I live in a hard water area so in my view limescale build up could be an issue on generator life. I may start only using deionised water or at least filtered water going forward. It maybe not be too much of an issue as the water is not heated but some deposits must build up over time.
@PaulBriden

I agree with what you are saying about water. I will watch the follow up video showing what the loco can pull. Cheers, and thanks for replying. @@LocoLeighton

How long does the water last for ?. Will it damage the loco if the water runs out when it is running ?
@LocoLeighton
@LocoLeighton 4 ай бұрын
Another good point Paul 😊 I feel a follow up video maybe required to answer these questions for others too. Could do a test with a full tank running the loco at half speed 🤔 I cannot see any warning in the Hornby instructions regarding running on an empty tank, but I will email and ask. Another thing to look into is the manual states to empty the tank for maintenance but no suggestions on what to do when in storage. In my view if not using it for a while it would be best to keep the tank empty. But when leaving the tank with water in for running the next day I feel it must be stored upright. Thanks for your comments and for watching 👍🏻

Also saying "it can run in analogue but it is not recommended." Can you tell me what that means please ?. It either is okay to do so or it is not. An ambiguous statement is not helpful for someone who is running analogue.
@LocoLeighton
@LocoLeighton 4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately that is what is stated in the manual and as it is not recommended I'm not prepared to test it myself on DC for an expensive model. Thanks for the feedback and something for me to ensure I include in future. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

I do have a loose bit of rail on the point in question on my layout 😬 It was caused by poor choice in cutting it to isolate between the two loops 🙄 That being said I think the wheel configuration might be better suited to express points 🤔 Thanks for the feedback and for watching 👍🏻
