You're quite right to call her 'elegant'. What an absolutely beautiful machine...she's a stunner. The separately fitted metal parts are a sign of good quality, as you say and that cab interior is very well detailed...I'd say one of the best I've seen. Let's hope this sets a new benchmark for fine detail on new models. I've always had a slight bias towards Bachmann for detail and weathering etc but some of the new Hornby releases are are really well presented. I think the slightly jerky motion at slow speed may be ironed out a little after a good run in. Great review, as always, mate. Tom :)

Sam, Doncaster green was meant to be slightly darker (if I'm remembering correctly) than that of Darlington, the LNER's other main works, a result both of the paint being mixed per use, not in batches, and a remainder from the pregrouping days (GNR grass green is noticably slightly darker than that of the NER). There were works discrepancies in the livery, it's all very interesting to look into, things like lining, the numbering style and so forth; I believe Stratford Works was notorious for not following "the rules". You see this with the other Big Four companies, too.

Oh yes I remember when LNER built the beautiful king class locomotive, and we are very lucky to have three of Thompson’s kings in preservation today. 😂😂

Out of most Thompson locomotives, this and the L1 are the best ones. And this is my favorite variant of British railways. The gill sans livery.

Sam, I've just realized you made my wish come true! That little segment of the engine running with the music right after you start the video is just lovely! I love that you bring the camera right down to the tracks. Good review as always. ;)

I just got my B1 in BR lined black and late crest, it was a secondhand in new state, and really not been out of the box before other than for inspection only, no running marks on the wheels, no dust and all parts in sealed bags.

Sam's "it's beautifull" Trains!!😎 The tender coupling is a common issues with Hornby tenders, had at least three fall off when running!

I've just ordered this from Hatton's prior to watching your video! I now feel vindicated with my choice too. I agree with your scoring it really looks the part & apart from minor issues can't wait to run it on my layout. Getting to the point where some of the prices for current loco's are getting beyond the average modeller like myself so seeing a bargain adds to the satisfaction I think you'll agree. Keep up the good work mate!

Looks a decent model. I had the same problem as you with the coupling on the tender of my Princess Arthur.
