Or you just get a robot now to ride on ^^" Reminds me that this could be a solutiln for horse sports. Horse sports are very unhealthy for horses most of the time. So with robots we could ride on, we can finally judge by just the skill of the rider and end the animal cruelty in sports.

@Boy George A micro drone can't carry a weapon, or carry enough explosives to do squat. By the way, the tech to produce micro drones did not exist in the '60s. We didn't have microchips or the batteries to make them.

Because this is groundbreaking. This is some of the first artificial intelligence available to the market. It also marks the first time AI is going to be apart of regular life.

@@eatmydust1716 There's no AI in Spot. Do your research. It can be programmed with a set of routes/actions, but it's a far cry from an AI. And Lew dragged this video on for so long it's boring af watching him act like it's a scary movie and overblowing the whole thing. Spot has been around for years. The only groundbreaking thing about it is that it can move on 4 legs (still inferior to using tracks & roadwheels), and it's practically in every-day use is yet to be discovered. The money and time Boston Dynamics put into this gimmick could've been better used by developing smart prosthesis for the disabled and figuring out how to transfer commands directly from the brain to the prosthetic limb.

@@JDB-tc5rs While yes it is no true AI, that is still years away, but I disagree that this is a gimmick. there are so many prothesis companies, so many software companies, so many traditional tech companies. But already there are industries that use spot. One example is Spacex, they just started using it to inspect their prototype rockets after tests, a job too dangerous for humans. "tracks and roadwheels" wouldn't work either because of the debris from potential explosions. Off the top of my head, I can think of dozens of potential other applications as well. Dangerous jobs can be phased out to robots so fewer people will die in workplace accidents. Back to AI, imagine this paired with true artificial intelligence. You would have full hardware and software independence. The complexity of the tacks you could give it would be insane.

I love that Lew kept calling it "Spot". Not treating it as "an iPhone" like he says in the video. I feel like this robot dog is to advanced to consider it as an object like an iPhone or something like it but more of an early version of some kind of being that deserves to be named. Atlas wouldn't be launched as it weighs 80 kg and is so heavy for being a "domestic robot". Spot weighs 20 kg (average weight of a large dog) and Atlas is 5 feet in height.

This brought back memories of my experiences building AI robots. Me and my dad used to build robots like SPOT but bigger with hands that could grab. They where actually bomb disposal units built for law enforcement. The technology then was nowhere as advanced as to now but this video made me smile.

This is amazing. Honestly astounding that we have this kind of technology and it’s already this good. Not too long ago stuff like this would have been SiFi to me, but now stuff like the EMMI in the new Metroid Dread seem like technologies that aren’t even that far off for us.

@@largegrape9134 its pretty possible, you could mount a weapon system with body heat sensors which would fire at anything that has a body temperature about 36 to 46°C. The trick is to build something that doesn't produce much recoil and is fairly light so spot can still move
