God damn he's seriously so fucking handsome

He gave a brilliant performance. The way he was able to switch between completely sadism and sell the absolute bafflement on his face when Louis didn't appear to want to congratulate him on his promotion was chilling. He really nails that sadistic pleasantness where even a smile is loaded with trickery. Not a likeable character by any means but a very captivating one. His performance had a lot of depth that I found myself wondering how he became like that. I wanted more answers about him and I think the movie was wise in not giving us too much because whatever the answer, it still wouldn't justify what he did.

I love Miyavi!! He´s the best

These solo shots of Watanabe actually didn't appear in the film? Except for the one where he's sitting outside on the bench (as last shown in this video.) I'm pretty sure I did hear the shamisen play in the background of a scene (assuming it's a recording of what Miyavi is playing) but it looks like they filmed that as well.. I'm just confused. I watched and read a lot of interviews from the Unbroken cast and Angelina before watching it a few hours ago and from their answers in describing the character, it just implied that clips like these (of him alone) would be shown in the film. I understand that it's from Sam's and the POW's point of view but Miyavi has been so expressive and adamant about how Watanabe is portrayed (with nuances of humanity) in his answers that I was looking forward to seeing what he described. (Of course his performance was perfect for the character and the beam scene definitely hit the nail on the head in terms of showing how "sick" Watanabe was.) It just seems like maybe a lot more was done for his character than what ended up being in the final product and it disappoints me that they were omitted. Still loved the movie but here's hoping for so more insight / BTS in the DVD release.

This is going to be such an inspirational film.

I personally didn´t see the movie and I don´t plan to, but I´ve seen some reviews and A LOT of interviews with the cast. I really think that Miyavi´s and Angelina´s thoughts behind his role and the movie as a whole are so powerful and inspirational, I really love how they talk about it. The portrayal of Miyavi´s and the other people´s characters were probably intense, however I don´t think the filmmakers succeeded in translating these images of humanity and forgiveness they wanted into the actual movie, as a lot of people are complaining and not seing it the same way.

This film will be great to see…amazing!

The talented & amazing Miyavi will be AMAZING in this movie-CAN'T WAIT!

The real Watanabe was quite handsome, more masculine than Miyavi, with that cold look in his eyes. Miyavi is such a sensitive soul with a pretty face, so to pull this role off so well is quite a feat. Very well done, and an admirable task, given the attitude of Japan toward the movie and the history of their behavior in WWII in general. Respect to Miyavi for a job well done.

UNBROKEN is a cool name for a Miyavi song/album

Watanabe was a nothing but a bully, a coward who refused to face who he tormented after the war. He should be remembered as the pitiable, small, pathetic man he was. I'm glad the movie can help with doing that.
