Best rivalry in sports with all due respect. Ohio St and Michigan is a freakin awesome rivalry but up til this year has been pretty one sided and Michigan has what two national titles to its name to Ohio St.'s five. The Iron Bowl is another classic! Awesome f'n rivalry! The Kick Six alone is epic! But again Auburn only has a couple titles to Alabama's dominance over the college football landscape. Florida St v Miami in its heyday was a great of talent and speed displayed as ever. But my Noles only captured a couple titles because of Wide Right I, II, III, IV... 🤦😂. Duke and Carolina, 8 miles apart, 5 and 6 titles respectively, meeting twice a year with virtually classic after classic. Other rivalries you could make an argument for would be Lakers-Celtics, Cowboys-49ers and Yankees-Red Sox though up til recently it was mostly NYY but Sox in the last 18 years have changed history's course. But I'll lean towards Duke-UNC
@howardbaxter25142 жыл бұрын
@@nickyd5341 Duke-UNC rival is also consistent. Even if one team experiences a period of dominance over the other, you can still expect hard play between both teams and very few blowouts. It comparable to Yankees-Red Sox, Lakers-Celtics, and Army-Navy,

This was the beginning of the long, dominant stretch that UNC currently enjoys over Duke. Since this game, UNC has won 2 national titles in 5 years, and has been to 3 Final Fours. UNC has also won 6 of the last 7 against Duke.

It's Carolina vs. Duke. If you knew anything about this rivalry, and the passion and intensity behind it, you would understand. When it's Duke-UNC, there isn't a favored team, because anything can happen. And besides, since when is storming the court having no class? It's not like they ran down to trample and attack Duke players, they went down to congratulate their classmates and team on a huge win and show their support. You have to know the rivalry to understand.

All I'm saying is Duke is often an excellent team, #1 ranked etc during the season. Not taking anything away from their accomplishments, but they have often failed to produce when it counts. Duke has had the talent and coaching to win 7 or 8 championships over the past 15 years but have only won it all twice in that span - that's underperforming. Carolina has not had that kind of consistency, esp with coaching but has taken better advantage of their opportunities since the early 90s.

Yep, I almost feel sorry for them...NOT! 😂 I've been a Heels fan since 1966 and have seen many greats come and go. K was a great coach, but he was the biggest cry baby of all coaches I ever saw! (He emulated Knight) In my opinion, he brought all this nonsense to CBB by his mannerisms and the players he recruited ( think of cry baby dirty players like Grayson Allen). But I take great joy in knowing this: UNC gave him his first loss in ACC play, and the last 2 losses of his career. You know that's gotta burn deep in his gut and he has nightmares about it!

@TheDukeFan96 I don't deny Duke's accomplishments (all under Coach K), but all that really matters in history is championships; UNC and Duke both have 2 over the past 15 years. Duke probably should have more, yet they routinely get bounced from the NCAAs by the underdog, just like this year. The fact is, in 8 of the past 10 NCAA tournaments Duke has been either a 1 or a 2 seed, yet they've only gotten to the Elite 8 twice. Look it up!

@@michaelhill56 Oh, yes, I'm very familiar with that miracle. Coming back from 8 points down in 17 seconds - WITH NO 3-POINT SHOT - definitely the best ever. What makes it even better is learning the story of how it unfolded, with Coach Smith saying in the huddle during timeout, "All right, after Bobby makes these two free throws (which he did), then we'll steal the inbounds pass (which we did!!!)...". Incredible, absolutely incredible. Also, funny to learn that, the next day in practice, Dean asked Walter Davis to try to duplicate that game-tying shot...he never made it even once over several attempts. :)
