Poles and flus didn’t draft fields, so they wanted to get their own guy. It’s something that most GMs wanna do to establish their culture. But you can’t deny that fields could’ve learned from foles given foles was a Super Bowl champion and very experienced. When you watch the tape you see that fields and Russ both hold the ball for too long and struggle to throw from the pocket and make quick reads over the middle. The bears o line was not as bad as people like to say it was last season, and once Caleb comes in and throws dots over the middle from the pocket, we will all see that. Tevin Jenkins has developed into a great young guard and Darnell Wright who poles drafted last year was also great. The other issue with keeping fields from a team building perspective is that fields would need a new contract next year or the year after. So if fields is good and we wanna extend him next year or the year after we need to pay him like $100 million or whatever. With Caleb we have a rookie that poles can build a team around for the next 4-5 seasons while Caleb is on his rookie scale deal.

I've found this weird too. Kinda seems like it was the former staffer that had some issue with Fields, cause all the players seemed to have his back up till the very end. In 2013 he set a record for the best TD to INT ratio of all time and threw 7 TDs in one game that year. He came up short against the Saints in the playoffs but still a pretty damn solid season.
