I agree. There is a movement today where artistic expression in the church is increasing in various ways. God created us, to create, and we can glorify Him in all we do. I LOVED this video, have watched it 4X. About a decade ago, homeschooling our kids, we would doodle little proverbs in a tiny book for fun. As a visual learner... I've always struggled with 'words' and remembering scripture. Visual note taking and doodling really helps brains who prefer to learn that way - learn and remember. To hear Pete talk about it was mind-blowingly affirming. Sounds like you are an artist, may you be encouraged in this area! 🥰

Love this! I don’t know any of these people, but I think I was lead to watch this because I’ve been struggling with ‘unplugging’ to connect with God as someone with ADHD. The comment the gentleman made to ‘pray the way God made you’ literally just set me free! God is so good, He knows how much I’ve been beating myself up about this! Like I’m so shocked, no doubt that was truly for me. Thank You God! 🙌🥹

Wow this made me think. I realized now after watching you talk about different kinds of prayer for half an hour. That my morning walks to work are in a way a prayer. I also realized that when I presently listen to the birds chirping and animals in my walk I have a heightened feeling of Gods presence around me, this always make me smile and makes me feel good and relaxed.

Practice the presence of God by Brother Lawrence While he did everything , including washing the dishes, He spoke to God. It's like "hanging out" with God in doing life. We take Him with us! It's not all reclusive or quiet. It's active and productive, too. Being alone with God can be within us in a busy space. Kinestheticly , yes! Connecting with God during any productive activity, sometimes without conversation. We are not double minded but mindful. This is good.... and there is more!

As someone who is a mom, everything changed the moment we realize this little life was given to me to care for, to love, to keep safe, to nurture, to hold, to mold. I realized the Love of God was all of these things for me... through the 3 am feedings... the diaper changes... their thriving, their milestones. All of these reminded me daily to love unconditionally, to be compassionate, to be a resource to others. To being grateful everyday for all of these moments. Being a mom transformed my life to see God as a beautiful father. And looking to him as the best teacher to be a mom. I'm so grateful for this fellowship.

Love this Tyler, I have been in recent months literally disciplined to have the intake of the Word of God, first thing in the morning and last thing at night as a way to sanitize my thoughts. Other than that I literally have a conversation throughout my day with the Holy Spirit and He has taught me somehow to be able to pray in my mind and be able to do whatever I need to do at work at the same time. I find myself receiving words and directions from Him and constantly, and He has become my closest friend and my Counselor in all things. I ask Him what He thinks even for things that are apparently trivial, but I've come to know that He actually loves that. And because of that lifestyle, I can honestly say that I feel His presence constantly irrespective what is going on around me. ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭143:8‬ ‭ESV‬‬ [8] Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

The garden could also mean Gethsemane. Where we weep, struggle for God to intervene and it's hard. It could also mean the garden of the empty tomb where God answers prayer and we are excited and awe struck. Whatever garden we are with Him in Paradise because they are His gardens. Amen ❤

To me, Tim Mackie is so spiritual, he really understood unceasing prayer. Unceasing prayer is not a religiously designed plan of prayer, it is to be aware of the presence of God and his creative and merciful power for each of us his children at every moment! This is the paradise! It is now and here when we are in GOD'S presence

I really appreciate Pete’s input. I feel like a dualism was indeed starting to form in the conversation here; a sort of separating the “mundane” from the “sacred” when indeed Christ’s presence is not locked into the quiet and aloof. Making prayer into a sort of esoteric practice. Although there is a time for quiet contemplation, Christ is not exclusively locked into that neat little frame. You can experience Christ through the most mundane things, by simply remembering his imminent presence. Theoria Physike!

Also Pete’s comment, “Most of the books on spirituality have been written by introverts”… i am def not an introvert. Just that profound observation freed me sooooo much from a lot of what I have read about prayer. I do find stillness really helpful and necessary to hear the “whisper” of God, but man. I hear him on the go a lot too, and when i am in the middle conversation with others. That “unceasing prayer” convo, so helpful.

I really appreciated Pete’s reminder of how okay, and ultimately important, it is to integrate prayer into every aspect of our life. So often, we compartmentalize the “Christian” parts of our life when Christ desires to be part of every aspect of our lives. As a dad of 6, soon to be 7, kids, I can totally relate to the sanctification of working through the mindset shift that kids aren’t a distraction from God but exactly where He often wants me to find him.

When I first became a Christian in 1972, I prayed in the spirit for an hour a day. God would meet me so incredibly. As my life progressed I no longer did or could do this. I really needed a new or deeper way to have this through my day. Thank you

This was an incredible round table and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE that no one's prayer life looked the same. We always wonder if we're doing this right because ours doesn't look like someone else's. But here out of 5 people, they all had different methods of prayer and different things the Lord has been working on them through prayer. Our God is so vast that He can be available for every single moment in the day for every single person, no matter where you are in the physical and spiritual. 😭🙌🏻❤️🕊📖✝️

I wish they would keep beginners in mind in all of these conversations. Because they use systems of prayers and other spiritual strategies with titles which many of us have never heard about and just keep getting lost in all of it. Nevertheless, overall it was a blessing to listen to this!

Unceasing prayer is your direct, and constant communication with God throughout the day, as the Spirit leads you, and gives utterance to your deepest feelings, and thoughts. It doesn't have to be on your knees, or any place special: my car is holy ground for worshipping, as I walk through the grocery store aisle I continue to pray, as I clean, do laundry, talk to my kids, or communicate with my husband: all praying. For guidance, wisdom, strength, peace, to be a testimony and a light in this dark world, for joy IN the storm, and above all else, to accept, and be willing to obey God's will...despite my own, opposite volition. In everything, to want to give God the glory...in everything we do (tasks). Do it all for the glory of God. Truth is, we are engaged in constant warfare, where the enemy doesn't take a break even for a second, that is why we have to constantly be vigilant in prayer. May the Lord help us where we fall short. The results or answers we seek are in concordance with the effort we put forth in the battle on our knees.

This is incredibly powerful insight. Prayer is paradise here, the garden now. Its our ability to connect to reality, to the intimate presence of God and surrender to Him to be at rest. Favorite tips from this: -Pray often, routinely, and earnestly -Combat our 'facts' with the Truth (focus more on Word of God rather than world/circumstances) -Find intentional quiet time to connect; especially first thing in the morning and last thing before bed (no Bible, no breakfast) -Acknowledge and recognize the presence of God and remember/meditate on His insights/scripture often

-Be fully transparent and honest before God rather than polished/impersonal (He knows our heart and is eternally merciful) -Pray the Scriptures (Psalm 5, Lord's Prayer) or pre-written prayers as guide -Practice varied prayer methods -Tune in to what the Lord is saying, pay attention to His revelations/reminders throughout the day

The only thing I'd say is that I heard marriage mentioned a few times which is totally fine and makes complete sense in the context and nuances of the discussion but for those of us who are single, it can make us feel a little isolated as we can't relate to that. But overall, lovely conversation.

Caleb Pennock, I hear you! I work nights as well! But often when I get home I am too awake to go to sleep! So I make it a routine to worship the LORD and pray! It's so amazing how the LORD meets us as we set aside time for HIM! My prayer life has really been so sweet! As a matter of fact, the LORD continues to minister to my heart through the night! He gives me scripture and worship songs! So often HE is the first thing I consider when I awaken! So GOD bless you on your journey in prayer! 💞🙏💞

Prayer rules and daily, weekly, yearly prayer rhythms were never "taken out of the common church". It still lives on in Eastern Orthodoxy; across the globe. Fidelity is not rebellious; it is simply what faithfulness looks like, no matter how rebellious it may seem to the broader culture at any given time. God bless these protestant leaders, but there is a bit of arrogance underlying their presumptions. It is indeed wonderful how more and more of them are rediscovering "hesychasm" but this seems to happen every 10 or 15 years among popular protestant movements (missional, emergent, etc.). It then becomes no more than a "trend" or "movement" among one or two pockets within denominations or church groups, only to die out with a change in leadership or forgotten/buried by whatever the next "trend" is. Without broader ecclesial backing, encouragement and promotion, it will not last. And this is just one of the realities that opened and challenged me to seek out and eventually join the Orthodox church.

This makes me think of Teresa of Avila and the interior mansion of the soul. When she talks as she grew deeper into the interior mansions, her prayer life became more and more silent. So important in our journey with Jesus.

Interesting that there are hundreds of years of literature on this subject within the Catholic and the Russian and Greek Orthodox Churches. St. John of the Cross, Theresa of Avila, The Philokalia, Thomas Merton. John Michael Talbot wrote a great book on the subject, “The Lover and the Beloved, a Franciscan Way of Prayer.” The Holy Spirit will lead you to the depths of intimacy and transformation if you answer and submit to the call. Past masters can help provide a framework and encouragement until it’s time to leave them behind. Ultimately the absorption into God is a One on one endeavor.

Agreed, totally interesting. I’m a young Catholic myself and I’m not nearly as formed on these practices as I want to be BUT it is so refreshing to hear other Christians tap into these ancient spiritual traditions that are commonplace in high liturgical or apostolic traditions. So many Christians from Protestant traditions really fear this idea of ritual and tradition so I’m happy to hear words like “monasticism, liturgy of the hours, vespers, examen” etc

I think we often forget what happened in the temple when Christ died. That veil that separated us from God was torn and the Holy of Holies - was opened to us As such, there is nowhere we can be in this universe where God is not. Emmanuel, God is with us! Let us remember to take off our shoes, wherever we are, whatever we're doing, because we are on holy ground and our loving Father is with us in the eternal now. This is how we pray unceasingly and do everything in faith.

As a stay at home, dad, the wiping away of the wet it paralleling the cleansing of our sin got me 😭 🙌❤️‍🔥 to take it further, you can even relate that to the priestly sacrificial system. Jesus will be praise weather I am cleaning dishes, a diaper, or spilled milk.

I'd love to see how worship through song comes into play with intimacy. For me I find I transcend to a blissful paradise through sweet song to the lord in addition to prayer through song. I haven't heard it mentioned yet but I think that is one portal to paradise for those who have the gift!

So I thought I was pretty smart and spiritually mature until I watched these Christian intellectuals talk😂. I can appreciate the growth my mind had to take just to understand the vocabulary 😮. At the end I realized that we are all different, have different relationships with God and maturity levels. I love Christine and her transparency ❤. I can relate to her best, but hearing all these other men speak of their prayer journeys was motivating and humbling and reassuring as well. I love the diversity of the Body.😊

Unceasing prayer is something central in the lives of Eastern Orthodox Christians - not just monastics but laity as well. There's an ancient tradition there going back to the earliest days of the Church that is well worth digging into. "The Jesus Prayer" by Kallistos Ware would be a solid intro for anyone who's curious.

The Jesus prayer is vain repetition. It should be a last resort for someone under demonic attack. One is better off reading, memorizing, meditating on the psalter. Eastern Orthodoxy has a lot of useless tradition and bad habits from backsliding pagans. The early church "fathers" are worshiped and because they are "first" but being the first they are also coming from heavily pagan roots. This is obvious in how they cling to their idolatry and fake saints they worship. It is rebranded catholicism and the schism was fake.

Love love love this! Maybe my favorite part was toward the end… When Tim Mackie was talking about hearing from God. Yep, Tim. You’re way smarter than me, but this one I know … I call it being a “ first class noticer “… that’s no coincidence. When we become first class noticers , there’s no denying God’s handprint !

Just listening to the first answer Tim made, makes me remember how much life I received listening to their deep revelations on bible project it felt like experiencing new rivers of fresh living water
