I just bought one, the newer version has an improved buckle so it lies flatter against the strap. Overall, worth the extra money over the $15 version I first had (that was hard plastic, this is rubber). It could be improved if it came with two keepers, mainly to keep the strap flat and because it is long (I have a 7.25" wrist) there is a lot of strap end left over to have to use one keeper on. I actually modded mine by using the two black plastic keepers from my cheep tropic strap instead of the single keeper included with the Uncle Seiko, and this version is a win for me.

I recently picked up the Uncle Seiko Tropic and already have the Uncle Seiko Waffle and WatchGecko Tropic. In addition to what has already been said below, I also find that the buckle on the Uncle Seiko Tropic doesn't lie flat on the wrist. It does lie flat on the Waffle however. I had to do the hot water treatment on both my Uncle Seiko straps to put a curve into the stiffer rubber. The WatchGecko is more supple and compliant and does not require a break-in. The Uncle Seiko buckle and strap does look more authentic however. The fact that the Uncle Seiko straps accommodate fatty spring bars typical for Seiko divers is what tips the scale in its favor as I use these on my Seiko diver. I use the WatchGecko on my non-Seiko watches.

Where's that time machine so I can go back to 1982 when I threw out a box of 200 of these straps because they weren't selling. Who knew?

Cool review Bruce, but I would love to have a bunch of these awesome straps for my divers. However, it seems like most manufacturers tend to forget the little guys when making straps. They’re just way too long for the 6.5”ish wrists. Especially, Seiko straps. I NEED 105x70mm length straps...please!

Yeah, I like the tropic style pattern a lot more than the waffle pattern. Great to hear about larger Seiko spring bar accommodation.

I dig it more than the waffle too

Hey Bruce Are these properly vulcanized as the original tropics or do they attract dust like the cheaper ones? cheers

these are very good, if not the best tropic straps.

How's about a comparison to the Oris tropic? Got my Oris 65 40mm on the bracelet, & looking for a good tropic but think the OEM a bit pricy!
@Catch_and_Release_Angling6 жыл бұрын
Bruce, would the 20mm size work on the Oris even though it has larger spring bar holes? I'd rather not pay 100 bucks for the Oris strap if I can get this for 40.
@cbs00196 жыл бұрын
Chris Haycook look at the tropic rubber from watchgecko. For normal springbars and the rubber material is almost exactelly the same as the Oris rubber.

Hi Bruce, does the strap also taper down to the buckle? or is just the other part of the strap tapering? thanks!

You know the buckle is kinda of odd. The pin falls through sometimes! I got the 19mm for the SLA017 and it looks so sickkk

These are nice. I got a short glimpse of those yesterday over at Spencer Klein's channel. What we now need is someone who makes period authentic bracelets. And racing tropics, finally. Any tips?
@BruceWilliams6 жыл бұрын
Michael Gisiger Uncle Seiko makes some period bracelets, though I’ve yet to see any in person
@MichaelGisiger6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, saw those, but those are a) SEIKO specific and b) too recent :) I'm looking for 1950s and earlier bracelets. And racing tropics like this one (original): instagram.com/p/BbMJu0jgpFp/?taken-by=wort.gefecht

Bruce, I want your honest opinion. How to they compare with the Oris 65 tropic strap - Quality? Texture? Feel?
@BruceWilliams6 жыл бұрын
Louie Seccombe extremely similar. The only noticeable difference to me is the Oris is more supple, but I imagine this one will break in nicely with some more wrist time
@j8sdx6 жыл бұрын
i have both Uncle Seiko and Watchgecko tropics and Watchgecko is softer, uncleseiko one has the better keeper though and fits the fat spring bars and tapers ideally I would like a combination of the 2 but nothings perfect

@jeffd38026 жыл бұрын
Just ordered the uncle seiko tropic for an incoming sbdc051. Hope the keeper wont slide around like on the waffle i had. I also ordered the watchgecko tropic whic is natural nbr rubber made by bonetto cinturini!!!!
@ssaliba636 жыл бұрын
I bought one based on your recommendations and like the pattern but it has the worst cheap buckle with poor craftsmanship and horrendous finish... IMHO, it's not worth the $40
