Featured Guest Brian "Head" Welch from Korn shared his testimony and words of encouragement to the attendees of Uncommon 2019.
BRIAN “HEAD” WELCH, was born June 19, 1970, and grew up in Bakersfield, California. He found his calling at age eleven when he picked up his first guitar. Voracious practicing and a steady diet of hard rock classics filled in the ensuing years, and shortly after high school, he co-founded a metal band named Korn. The band soon became a Grammy award-winning, multi-platinum force that shot to the top tier of the rock world and dominated the new metal movement of the late Nineties. Korn’s 1998 Follow the Leader album cemented the band as rock titans when they debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, fighting off new releases from mainstream heavyweights Dr. Dre and Celine Dion. For his efforts with Korn, Head received six Grammy nominations, winning two, while selling some 40 million records worldwide.

@@reneediltz8334 don't compare God to a mortal man. Their is no comparison. Jesus Christ wasn't welcome because he was truth. He wasn't a rockstar privileged to speak in Church because he was popular. I have a problem with these popular people that proclaim salvation, get to preach to others. Sanctification takes time. Also Image does mean something. I hope he continues to grow and MATURE in life and Christ. We are called to be different. This guy looks like a drug addict rock star. @@reneediltz8334 no, I was commenting about your comment. You did compare him to Jesus. Saying Jesus wasn't welcomed in many places. That's a comparison. Belittling people? I didn't belittle anyone. Let's face it. If Bryan wasn't famous, he wouldn't be up there and you wouldn't be trying to compare him to Jesus, which is God that was made flesh to live a sinless life. Read in Timothy. It will give you the instructions on how the church is to be conducted, who leads, etc. Nothing has changed.

you just reminded me of a story. In the late 90's I was in the UK and attended a Church in the Town I was at College at. One night I noticed this real tough looking guy, covered in tattoos..but he was real hyped up and happy. He got up during the Service and gave his Testimony. It was quite a story, but the bit that really got to me was how just after his conversion; an old guy approached him and told him that he was the Caretaker of this guys school. The Caretaker used to clean up behind the bike sheds, clearing up beer tins and ciggy packets and stuff...he used to pray for those kids who were using this stuff...of which, at the time...the saved guy was one of those kids! quite something eh?

Interesting journey for Head. I am 5 years older than him and happened to find his first book in 2007 when I was in a pretty bad place. After getting hurt in Iraq I developed and addiction to prescription medication. I was in San Diego for a friend of mines funeral that was killed in Iraq in June 2007. I went to a book store by my hotel and saw "wow the dude from Korn has a book". I am still a Korn fan, sober, retired after 21 years in the U.S. Army and still here loving life more than ever. Brian's journey reminded me of my own.

The ultimate experience of my life happened with my mom at church. They were asking people to come to the pews and give their lives to Christ. I wanted to go down but I couldn't make myself do it. After the service a lady came up to me out of nowhere and said that the lord had told her to come and speak to me. I didn't believe her but then she said that he told her that I wanted to go to the pews but I was scared so he had sent her to pray with me. If We claim to know Jesus and are born again, we must repent and turn away from our old sin nature, not return back to it. If we have knowledge of the truth in Christ, and yet, “willfully make appointments with sin” we are being deceived. My prayers will continue for him to accept the fullness of what Jesus offers. Returning to vomit is just as bad as not knowing Jesus. For the Bible says, “the lukewarm Christian” -one foot in the kingdom and one foot in the world is a worse position to be in rather than being an unbeliever (hot or cold). Prayers for this man to see the light of grace and forgiveness and full repentance.

I am sober three years from herion.. Its not easy to get sober.. Its a very painful time, but the joy and happiness that comes with waking up without needing something to stop the sickness is worth the struggle.. Every bad day is one more good day coming your way.. I lost two friends just a few months ago.. Many mpre friends over the years.. One was a guy 10 years older then me that we both got sober at same time.. I always looked at him as what i will end up in ten years if i dont get sober.. He died of overdose.. Once sober I got everything i ever dreamed of having.. Lots of patience to get through everything.. What always gets me going through the rough days is "God only gives you what you can handle" so if you feel the world pushing down on you so hard you think you will break.. (especially being so sick) Them you are stronger than you think and can handle it.. Also your always stronger with help, if its a friend, a stranger or God himself helping... Best of luck to all in your struggles and many prayers...

The people who gave this a thumbs down or said anything hateful, you need to repent and get saved!!! If you profess to be a Christian and you are criticizing and downing him, you need to ask Jesus to check your heart and ask Him, like king David did to scrub your heart clean. I believe he had a real conversion. I've always liked rock and metal and I have been listening to Korn since the 90s. I praise Yeshua Hamashiach that both Brian and Fieldy got saved. I pray the rest of the band get saved and loads of other rock and metal stars follow suit and get saved too, and I believe that those two guys have their ministry in the music industry to reach other artists and to reach the fans!

I've been a fan of Korn since I was 12 years old. I'm 36 now. I stopped following them for a while but got really into them again around 2006-2007 and I noticed from the music videos at that time that the "guy with the weird hair" wasn't with them anymore. that led me down a rabbit hole of discovering who Head is and why he left and all that. I grew up in a Christian household but never really did much with it myself. I read Head's 1st book at a time when I was heavily using painkillers, mainly fentanyl and felt trapped in my life to the point where I was indifferent to whether I lived or died. Reading his book made me really start contemplating my faith, God and my life. Since then, I've been able to get sober, get married, had kids, all that stuff and I know it's by the grace of God that I've been able to get to where I am. I think him and pray to him every day to continue to watch over my family and I and give us to navigate the perils of our broken world.

I accepted Christ at a very young age, but I was not discipled. When I was a teenager, I encountered evangelicals, but nothing ever took root. For most my life, I just knew there was a God and He has a son Jesus who died for me. I traveled down a road of regret, worthlessness, suicidal thoughts, never feeling like I could measure up. In 2015 many terrible yet divine events took place and I finally entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ. Around this time, I was a heavy pot smoker, also smoked cigs. I was in deep debt, putting drugs above my responsibilities. I was lying to my parents and used them to help get me through my financial crises that would occur often. I was showing up to church high, praying, being discipled, but still hiding. When I finally confessed before some of my brothers and sisters, including my pastor and his wife, things started to dramatically change in my life. The things I thought I could never let go of, God removed from my life. In April, 2018, He delivered me from my nicotine addiction. While I was thankful, I was more concerned with my pot addiction though. It was costing me over $1,000.00 a month and I couldn't understand why I couldn't just give that up like that cigs. I was brain dead, absent from being an attentive parent to my boy, who was 9 at the time. On January 2rd, 2019, I reached out to my sister in Christ and requested that she and her life group pray for me. I was in agony at my weakness, feeling like such an idiot not being able to quit pot, of all drugs, right? She was more than willing. On January 4th, 2019, I got off work and went to the grocery store to buy a cooked chicken, some sides and get $60.00 cash to get my pot. In line, the cashier noticed my shirt which had a cross on it and some verbiage. He asked "What does your shirt say?" I unzipped my jacket to show him and I said, "Share Hope." His face lit up! With people in line, this man told me his testimony of being homeless, on meth, stealing and coming across a Christian organization that does homeless outreach in our area. He went on to say that here he is 5 years later, clean and sober, full time job, married with kids and a youth pastor at his church. He was so excited to share what Jesus had done for him. I smiled as I took my $60.00 from his hand and said "That is a beautiful testimony, praise God, thank you for sharing it!" I drove to the pot store after leaving, walking in feeling welcomed and loved. "Hey girl, good to see you again!" I was a prime customer at this store. They knew I spent a lot of money here and when I walked in I felt I was among friends. I picked up my weed then drove to go pick up my son from school daycare. We get home, I reheat the chicken, heat up the sides and serve my son dinner. As per the usual, I said "I'm going in the garage i'll be right back. Don't come out there." I vaped my weed, looking at my phone and suddenly I felt this overwhelming dread take over me. I felt pure panic and terror. I calmly walked into the house and headed to my room. I knew I was going to have a breakdown. I told my boy, "I have to make an important call, please don't disturb me, I'l be out soon." "Ok mommy", he said. I remember just collapsing on my bed, burying my face in my pillow and just sobbing. Hating who I was. I was disgusted that I couldn't give up this drug and that I put it above EVERYTHING in my life. "How can I even be a Christian!?", I thought to myself. My son knocked on my door and opens it slowly out of caution. Peeking in he said to me "Mommy are you ok?". I told him I was fine and that I was just sad and needed to cry for a minute. He walks in and asks if he can lay with me, to which I was more than happy to have him join me. Laying on our sides face to face embraced in a hug, my son looks at me and says "Mommy, you know we are all broken right? But this is why we have God! He will fix us if we trust in Him." I looked at my son and thought how in the heck can this 9 year old know the truth better than me? I hugged him and said "You are so right. I love you so much." We hugged tightly after that, I started to softly cry and it was in that moment I heard a voice say to me "YOU ARE DONE." I contemplated that voice. Here I just spent 60 dollars on buying pot and I heard myself saying "After you smoke all this, you can quit." But that was a flat out lie. If I had 100 dollars for every time I said "After this..", I'd be able to go to Disneyland with my son like we've always wanted too! I chose then to be obedient to God and I got rid of all of it the next day. Everything I had related to pot, gone. And I was TERRIFIED. Terrified of failure. Terrified I'd be right back at the store buying more. Terrified my son would see how weak I was and that I could never do it. I remember sharing with some church family what had happened and that I would need their prayers and support to get through this. They were by my side no problem. I also found out, that moment I was having the meltdown, down to the time it happened, was when my friend and her life group were all praying for me. They gathered into a circle and each one prayed! Talk about divine intervention. The whole process of withdrawal was awful. I'm not going to sugar coat it. I didn't think I was going to make it at all. But I would keep looking at that prayer candle my son made me, and pray, reach out to friends, reach out to God and each day that passed, it would get a little easier. Friends, brothers and sisters in Christ, those who don't believe, those who feel hopeless that things can't change....I am here to tell you through Christ IT CAN! I will be clean and sober 1 year in January of 2020. Never, and I MEAN NEVER, did I ever think I would be here. Surrender your life to the Lord. Trust in Him and in HIS TIME, He will clean you up. He will transform you into what you're meant to be. I know this is a long "comment", but I felt led by the Lord to share it because this is for someone else. I even feel some sort of apprehensiveness to click the "comment" button so that it posts, but that's the enemy. The enemy doesn't want you to see that there is hope. I take none of the glory here, it all belongs to God. ALL OF IT! I love you all.

anthony FXBB find a celebrate recovery near you. Do a faith based 12 step. Seek God above all else. Focus only on what God thinks of you over any other persons opinion including friends and family. I lost myself through addiction and life to the point of being suicidal wanting to end it all. This is when I turned to Jesus searching for answers. I found God in a big way. It’s really more like God found me. I had a very powerful spiritual experience. I cannot begin tell express how great the Holy Spirit feels. God’s love cannot be explained, only experienced. I was raised Lutheran and been to church off and on my whole life and never knew God this way. I would love for everybody to experience God in the way I did. It only takes a belief. Religion is Works and working to earn God’s love will only hinder your faith. The Holy Spirit will give you the desire to follow God and do what he requires. I wish I could coach people on their own path to a spiritual awakening. God’s love is so amazing you cannot stop taking about it. I hope you achieve the relationship with God you desire.

This is one of few of the most authentic, poignant and holy spirit filled testimony I've ever heard! So down to earth the furthest from Jesus will listen and strongly acknowledge the seed brian has sown. So relatable. The devil is a bonafide deceptive, master of lies. Fyi, I was once caught in the cult of jehovah's witnesses for 3 years searching for truth in God. I escaped and 11 years later Jesus came face to face with me where I was at my lowest and darkest hours. I do know those drug music industry all night for days parties. I ran hard in them. God can and yearns to clean us up but our free will needs to align with his purpose!

Wow what a beautiful story!!! It’s only when you hit rock bottom when you find the true meaning of how beautiful Jesus can really be and even after death he still sent a helper to help us in our deepest darkest moments to comfort and LOVE us... And nobody on this earth is perfect, everyone has some form of addiction whether they know it or not. It doesn’t have to be a drug and anyone that comes from addiction and can speak about it is a true warrior in my eyes. I too have been there done that and I know what he talks about IS SO REAL ♥️ People do change but only with the power and the light and the love of Jesus!!!!Thank you for your story!!! And remember the people Jesus picked as his 12 apostles were tax collectors and sinners themselves..... Stay humble folks!!!Wooohooooo!!!

Brian Welch, I don't know how I got to your testimony but I am so glad I did. You excite my heart and soul. I want to know Jesus more and more. I've been seeking God and its been a very confusing walk because the devil tries to convince me that God's not real or that I'm not worthy of his love but the devil is a liar and he is trying to stop me from going full in. I'm a female btw but everything you spoke about hit hard. I love you man and God bless you. Sending love all the way from South Africa.

Always remember that God does not confuse people. The secret is this. Dont put ur eyes on man cause man will let u down. Especially musicians and celebrities cus they always go back to the world thinking its ok but its not. God said serve one or the other u can't do both. Keep ur eyes on Jesus and u will be fine.

Seems like a lot of people want to sway you away from listening to Brian now we don't put our faith in men but he is giving a testimony of his experience with God and Jesus he's been clean for 14 or 15 years just because he's a rockstar doesn't mean he's not a Christian he's fine to listen to don't let a bunch of holier-than thou people tell you not to listen to him. He's not a preacher. He is just telling his experience. Probably better than some preachers. And no I am not a corn fan but I do know of there music. He doesn't look good enough for those he doesn't speak good enough for those.people God says in the Bible to go tell of the miracles I have done for you in several places and that is what he is doing. And good for you, you keep learning more about being a Christian, and I'll be praying for you 😇👍

1 Corinthians 1:27 “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong”. brian you are a great testament to God’s power & love. there are people who will criticize & mock you coz of your faith & your outfit or whatever saying your not christian enough.but God looks at the heart.
